Baker Mayfield Calls Out Buccaneers Over Contract Talks

As training camp continues to unfold, there’s no shortage of storylines, both on and off the field. One of the most prominent of late has been the situation between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Baker Mayfield, as the two sides continue to fail to agree on a contract extension.

He wants to make sure the contract situation doesn’t become a distraction and the fact that he’s going to be a free agent after this season doesn’t become the storyline. He just wants to focus on football and worry about the rest later.

Mayfield has really kept this franchise on the map following the Super Bowl era with Tom Brady. The Buccaneers didn’t necessarily have the brightest future after Brady’s retirement, but Mayfield came in, added consistency to this team and led Tampa Bay to back-to-back division titles.

This is now a big year for Mayfield. He hopes he can stay healthy and earn a big contract next offseason. The relationship certainly isn’t broken between Mayfield and the Buccaneers, but there’s certainly something to monitor there.
