Bucs At Chiefs: NFL Week 9 Odds

The Bucs are up against it. After opening the season in pretty solid shape with a 4-2 run, they took the most costly L of the season against Baltimore. On paper, they’re still in the hunt at 4-3, but in reality, things have taken a turn for the grim.

That’s because star WRs Mike Evans and Chris Godwin both went down injured. Evans avoided IR for the moment, but the team doesn’t expect him back for several weeks. Godwin’s season is over.

The secondary is also ravaged. Their top CB, Jamel Dean, went on IR. Rookie Tykee Smith sustained a concussion. He’s out Week 8, and it remains to be seen whether that changes for Week 9.

Now, the Chiefs have had their own injuries to deal with. However, they have the depth, the coaching, and the QB to push through, as evidenced by their continued winning.

And their own receiving room will receive significant reinforcement. JuJu Smith-Schuster is expected back by Week 9, and DeAndre Hopkins will have had a week to get acclimated to the system.

The Bucs have their work cut out for them here trying to get a road win on MNF.

The Chiefs are expected to roll pretty easily in Week 8 against a battered and fracturing Raiders team.

However, many eyes will be on the Bucs to see how the diminished version of this team looks against Atlanta. The market has already made its feelings clear. Without Evans and Godwin, the Bucs odds plummeted from -2.5 to +2.5 for this game.

If the market’s fears are confirmed, and the Bucs offense drops precipitously, expect Chiefs odds to inch out to -10 or -10.5. The total will likely drop to 42.5 or so as well. The Chiefs have demonstrated they have no problem winning ugly.
