Week 8 NFL Power Rankings: Notable Movement Includes Titans

Week 8 Power Rankings

In this feature, we’ll hit on three teams trending upward in our NFL power rankings. Keep in mind, TheLines’ Week 8 power rankings aren’t Super Bowl futures opinions, despite the possibility there might be value available. Instead, they rank a team’s outlook on a week-by-week basis. The ranks are a composite of eight staff members — in the order of which team we would have favored on a neutral field this week.

No. 10 Miami Dolphins ()

The Dolphins managed to squeak out a 16-10 win over the Steelers in Tua Tagovailoa’s return under center. Digging further into the box score, Mike McDaniels’ team won the Yards Per Play battle fairly handedly (6.0 YPP to 4.9). It moved up six spots as a result, which was the second-biggest leap in the Week 8 power rankings.

Although the secondary is banged up — with safety Brandon Jones (IR) representing latest casualty — its upcoming schedule negates some of those concerns. The Lions, Bears, and Browns are on deck, and the first two passing attacks don’t present much explosiveness through the air.

On the other side of the ball, Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill & Co. should have success against those vulnerable defenses.

Week 8 Spread: Dolphins

No. 17 Tennessee Titans ()

While the Titans notched their fourth consecutive victory on Sunday, they continue to get away with fraudulent outcomes. Despite that, they rose four spots in our Week 8 power rankings. Don’t blame the messenger.

Mike Vrabel’s bunch is tied with the Cardinals and Commanders, respectively, for the league’s second-fewest Net YPP (4.9). There’s something to be said about taking advantage of costly mistakes, which Tennessee accomplished versus the Colts, yet turnovers aren’t a predictive indicator of future success.

The Titans’ likely regression may not come at the lowly Texans, yet Ryan Tannehill is dealing with an ankle injury that could keep him sidelined.

Week 8 Spread: Titans

Who’s highest on the Titans? Nate Weitzer (No. 15)

Who’s lowest on the Titans? Eli Hershkovich and Mo Nuwwarah (No. 19)

No. 19 Seattle Seahawks ()

The Seahawks sit atop the NFC West standings after a convincing victory at the Chargers, outgaining them by 1.6 YPP. They sustained the biggest leap in TheLines’ Week 8 power rankings because of it.

Considering Seattle’s win total was 5.5, oddsmakers and bettors alike undervalued Pete Carrol’s unit. Not only did it pull off a heist by disposing of Russell Wilson in Denver, but Geno Smith also appears to be a legitimate solution at that position. The ninth-year quarterback owns the fifth-highest Dropback EPA — behind only Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, the aforementioned Tagovailoa, Joe Burrow, and Jimmy Garoppolo.

This time around, the Seahawks are a field goal favorite versus the Giants, which the betting market continues to rate accordingly. But their offense will be without wideout DK Metcalf, who’s expected to miss time with a knee injury.
