NFL Week 8 Look-Ahead Lines: Bills Favored Huge Over Packers

NFL Week 8 look ahead lines

NFL Week 8 look ahead lines are out. In the week’s headliner, the Bills host the Packers in what would have been a battle of high-powered passing offenses in past years. Alas, the Packers have fallen on hard times a bit this year, and the Bills have been installed as hefty early favorites for Sunday Night Football.

Every week, usually on Friday, TheLines will post look-ahead lines from FanDuel Sportsbook and DraftKings Sportsbook. These look aheads give an early snapshot of the current market opinions of teams absent the week-to-week bias that can take hold following weekend results.

Week 8 NFL Primetime Games

Thursday Night Football Odds

Thursday Night Football should bring a rare treat for viewers used to seeing some ugly football in past weeks.

Both of these teams have lost in recent weeks as big favorites, but there’s no doubt the Buccaneers have been the shakier of the two after shockingly dropping one to a short-handed Steelers team. They get a virtual freebie against the mess that is the Panthers in Week 7. Of course, the flip side is if they somehow struggle against PJ Walker, the market may react violently. Fool me twice and all that.

Plus, keep in mind that even in spite of a dispiriting late collapse against the Giants, the Ravens dominated that football game from the line of scrimmage. Grab the +3 while you can if you like the Ravens, as this seems likely to only move their way.

Sunday Night Football Odds

The bad news for the Packers is they have to go to Buffalo. The good news is, they actually don’t match up too badly since they’ve been absolutely destroyed by opposing running games but Buffalo has little interest in running the ball. If the Packers’ eighth-rated pass rush (per PFF) can get to Josh Allen, they’ll make a game of it.

With the Bills off this week, don’t expect much movement. The Packers face the Commanders on the road, but it would seem insane for this line to reach double digits even if they struggle there.

Monday Night Football Odds

Few units have been as disappointing as the Browns defense this season. Expected to rank among the league’s elite, the unit has been steamrolled on the ground while bringing little pressure to opposing QBs despite having premium pass rushers. Perhaps the light could still come on and this unit could begin to dominate. That would be a must before facing a top-flight Cincinnati passing game.

Of course, heading on the road to face the high-powered Ravens does not set the Browns up for success.

The Bengals have an easier assignment at home against the Falcons. Would the market dare inch the Bengals up and make the Browns +3 home underdogs here? It’s certainly worth waiting and seeing if that’s the side you’re leaning toward.

MORE POTENTIAL WEEK 7 IMPACT ON WEEK 8 LOOK-AHEAD LINES

Commanders At Colts

The Commanders enter Week 7 in flux at the QB position due to accumulated injuries to Carson Wentz. Taylor Heinicke will draw his first start of the year and it won’t be easy against a fierce Packers pass rush and talented secondary. Heinicke played poorly in 2021 as the starter for most of the season. But, we’ve seen strong play from him before, notably against eventual Super Bowl champs Tampa Bay in 2020’s playoffs.

This line sits in a bit of no man’s land in between the key numbers of +3 and +7. A big Heinicke performance and an upset of the Packers could move it closer to the former. If he looks rough again and the Commanders get routed, it could go the other way.

Certainly, we know the Colts are capable of just about anything given their swings in results this year.

Giants At Seahawks

Week after week, the Seahawks continue to play well (mainly on offense), but week after week, the market remains pretty unimpressed with them. They get their toughest assignment in some time in Week 7 heading to LA to play the Chargers. As pretty sizable underdogs, the market expects a loss.

However, the Giants are in about the same situation. They keep winning, but they’re once again underdogs to the Jaguars.

Either of these teams could force some respect with another upset win, but the Seahawks are the team near the key number and with the bigger chance to impress. It’s a bit surprising to see them favored here considering the market made the Cardinals road favorites over them, but perhaps opinion is changing. Could it change further and make them full -3 favorites over a currently 5-1 team?

HOW TO USE NFL LOOK-AHEAD LINES

The look-ahead lines allow you a sneak peek at the projected lines for the following week’s games. This information from a leading online sportsbook will help provide lessons in understanding lines and projections before the current week’s games are played.

Many bettors tend to overreact to the previous week’s scores and results. The NFL Week 8 look-ahead lines provide a sense of stability from the oddsmaker. They sometimes offer a clear, unbiased snapshot of perceived team strength.

Bettors can also gain an edge or find value in the lines once the weekend results take hold. See if you can find any over- or under-reactions by the market.

Of course, always take note of key injuries, travel and scheduling situations, and NFL power rankings. Making adjustments is part of the process, along with accounting for teams’ strengths, weaknesses, against-the-spread angles and personnel matchups.
