Those who wagered on Patriots odds in Week 5 saw New England get handed a second-straight blowout loss. However, the Saints tallied the fourth-lowest success offensive success rate while scoring 13 points on short fields from the Patriots’ three turnovers. For context, the initial metric applies to a play being deemed successful if it accrues at least 50% of the necessary yards for a first down, 70% on a second down, and 100% on a third or fourth down.
In short, Bill Belichick’s defense exceeded expectations without pass rusher Matthew Judon (elbow) nor rookie corner Christian Gonzalez (shoulder). Despite New England touting one of the NFL’s most inefficient offenses, the defense should hold the Raiders’ one-dimensional unit in check.

For a second straight season, we’ve seen an undefeated start for Eagles odds straight up. Nevertheless, I’ve continued to preach that the market is overvaluing them, according to my numbers. Not only will the Jets have a healthier secondary, assuming D.J. Reed (concussion) returns, but their top-10 run defense should also hold the Eagles’ ground-oriented offense in check. Asking much from Zach Wilson is probably pushing it, yet the opposing secondary has taken a step back because of the slow-footed Darius Slay, who missed Wednesday’s practice with a knee injury.
