NFL Week 6 betting lines

Among last week’s games, there were two five-point underdogs or more to win outright. The Bears (+6) defeated the Commanders by double figures on Thursday night before the Jags (+5) took advantage of the Bills’ banged-up defense, winning two straight in London.

As we’re almost onto NFL Week 6 odds, I’ll dive into four matchups in this breakdown and compare their point spreads to the look-ahead line. If you’re unfamiliar with the second term, it gives bettors a peek at projected point spreads for the following week’s games.

Limits on look-ahead lines tend to be lower than a “normal” week, but that shouldn’t be the purpose of how users perceive them. Since bettors normally have some initial recency bias, look-ahead lines offer a clear snapshot of teams, per the oddsmakers. Without further ado, here are some spreads to keep an eye on.

Ravens (-3.5) at Titans (+3.5)

There technically isn’t a home team for this contest in London. Nevertheless, the spread dipped from Baltimore -5 on the look-ahead line.

Despite outgaining Pittsburgh in YPP, Ravens wide receivers combined to drop four potential scores. Couple that with a blocked punt and Lamar Jackson’s two turnovers, and these variables configured into a loss in Pittsburgh. But on the surface, the line shift seems like an overreaction. Remember that the Titans failed to reach the market’s expectations in Indianapolis, falling to the Colts when the market bet them up to -2.5.

Seahawks () at Bengals ()

Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase were back on the same page this past weekend, hooking for three touchdowns. That said, the market has initially bet this line down from the key number of a field goal. Seattle has won three consecutive games, including a beatdown of the 1-4 Giants before the bye week.

Vikings (+3) at Bears (-3)

Given the results above from both teams, the alteration from the look-ahead line (Vikings -4) isn’t surprising. Minnesota ranks No. 24 in EPA per dropback allowed, and a resurgent Justin Fields & Co. will provide an arduous test. The status of Justin Jefferson (hamstring), the Vikings’ All-Pro wideout, is also worth monitoring.

Saints (-1.5) at Texans (+1.5)

Derek Carr and the Saints sport a 1-3-1 against the spread record on the season. CJ Stroud and the Texans, meanwhile, own a 3-2 ATS record on the year. This line hasn’t budged at all over the last 10 days.

Eagles (-7) at Jets (+7)

Lookahead lines had the Philadelphia Eagles as -6.5 betting favorites over the New York Jets. That spread has held mostly steady since then with the Jets now +7 underdogs at most sportsbooks. The over under was 41 points three days prior to the late afternoon kickoff at MetLife Stadium.
