Tight football lines at FanDuel Sportsbook foreshadow competitive showdowns, with nine of the 14 NFL Week 6 look-ahead lines at a point spread below four points.

The NFL bye weeks start in Week 6 with Atlanta, New Orleans, New York Jets and San Francisco not in action as you prepare your NFL betting strategy.

An interconference clash between early season leaders kicks off Week 6 when the Arizona Cardinals hit the road to tackle the Cleveland Browns. MVP favorite Kyler Murray and the Cardinals are the only undefeated team heading into Week 5, and a home win over NFL West rival San Francisco keeps the Cardinals rolling into Cleveland.

The Browns lead the league in rushing offense at 177 yards per game, and Cleveland’s defense is No. 2 in the NFL allowing 250 yards per game. A major test as the Browns defense tries to slow Kyler Murray and the Cardinals high-powered offense averaging a league-high 35 points per game.

Week 6 NFL Prime Time Games

Prime time totals betting saw high-scoring affairs through three weeks with eight-of-nine games going over the total.

However, all three primetime games in Week 4 went under the total with scores of 45, 36 and 42 points to make overs 8-4 this season.

Thursday Night Football Week 6 Odds

Thursday Night Football will feature the Philadelphia Eagles hosting the Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

More prime time scoring expected with the Bucs a sizeable favorite and averaging 400 yards and 30.5 points per game on offense. Duel quarterback Jalen Hurts has helped the Eagles offense generate 397 yards per game and among the efficient leaders at 6.5 yards per play.

The difference appears to be on defense, as the Eagles have surrendered at least 40 points to back-to-back opponents (DAL and KC) heading into Week 5. But Philly’s defense stats are still slightly better than the Bucs with the Eagles allowing 354 YPG and 5.3 yards per play to the Buccaneers 375 and 5.7. The big statistical difference is at the point of attack with the Bucs run defense allowing a league-low 47 rushing yards per game and 2.7 yards per rush to the Eagles a league worst 150 rushing yards per game.

Sunday Night Football Week 6 Odds

Sunday Night Football Week 5 features two disappointing teams who are both in last place in their divisions. The interconference game is the Pittsburgh Steelers hosting the Seattle Seahawks.

The Steelers are 0-2 at home and have the league’s worst rushing offense (55 YPG) heading into their Week 5 game against Denver. Seahawks QB Russell Wilson suffered a significant finger injury to his throwing hand in Thursday’s Week 5 loss to the LA Rams.

Monitor his status and other key injuries.

Monday Night Football Week 6 Odds

Monday Night Football features upstate New York fans and bettors getting behind the road favorite Buffalo Bills against the Tennessee Titans.

The Bills defense has registered two shutouts this season and boast the league’s best yards per game stats allowing just 217 yards per game heading into their big Week 5 road game at Kansas City. So it’s back-to-back prime time road games for the Bills against two playoff teams last season.

Buffalo tops the TheLines power rankings coming into Week 5 and is one of the leading Super Bowl LVI favorites early in the 2021 season.

POTENTIAL WEEK 5 IMPACT ON WEEK 6 LOOK-AHEAD LINES

Chargers at Ravens

A win by the Chargers over the Browns in Week 5 would move the look-ahead line of Ravens -3.5 to on or below the key number of 3.

Also, the line likely adjusts with the Ravens on a short week off their Week 5 Monday Night Football game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Underdogs are 38-26 ATS through Week 4 NFL action, and the Chargers figure to get more support as a top AFC team. The LA Chargers are 2-0 SU/ATS on the road as underdog this season with wins at Washington and Kansas City.

Packers at Bears

The NFL’s oldest rivalry continues in Week 6 at Soldier Field. The Chicago Bears host the Green Bay Packers and Bears head coach Matt Nagy is sticking with rookie QB Justin Fields.

Barring injury, Fields will make his fourth straight start against the Packers. He gives the Bears offense more mobility and a stronger deep passing threat, but Chicago is still averaging an NFC-low 16 points per game.

Bettors perception is significantly stronger on Aaron Rodgers and the first-place Packers. A Green Bay road win at Cincinnati will have Packers backers getting behind Green Bay and likely moving the line higher as a road favorite against the Bears.

The Packers buried the playoff-bound Bears last season 41-25 and 35-16 in Chicago to close the regular season at the same point spread (-4.5). The Packers have beaten the Bears in nine of their last 10 meetings. Monitor the status of Packers top CB Jaire Alexander, a premier player who is out with a shoulder injury in Week 5 and could have surgery.

HOW TO USE LOOK-AHEAD LINES

TheLines turns to FanDuel Sportsbook for opening look-ahead lines for next week’s NFL games. Bookmakers begin posting these lines every Thursday — a full week before the ensuing week’s games on the schedule.

These look-ahead lines allow you a sneak peek at the projected lines for the following week’s games. This information from a leading online sportsbook will help provide lessons in understanding lines and projections before the current week’s games are played.

The tendency for many bettors is to overreact to the previous week’s scores and results. The Week 5 look-ahead lines provide a sense of stability from the oddsmaker, who is unbiased in setting the lines in advance.

Bettors can also gain an edge or find value in the lines and odds once the current week’s lines are released. They not only apply that based on potential overreaction to the recent week’s results, but also by using team-by-team insight.

That includes key injuries, travel and scheduling situations, and use of NFL power rankings. Making adjustments is part of the process, along with accounting for teams’ strengths, weaknesses, against-the-spread angles and personnel matchups.
