- Arizona Cardinals (+7.5) at San Francisco 49ers (-7.5)
- New York Giants (+5.5) at Seattle Seahawks (-5.5)
- New Orleans Saints (+5.5) at Kansas City Chiefs (-5.5)
Here are some early NFL Week 5 odds to consider taking action on.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+1.5) at Atlanta Falcons (-1.5)
The Buccaneers ensured they wouldn’t let an embarrassing loss to the Broncos cause a hangover, as they throttled the short-handed Eagles, 33-16. Atlanta managed to move to 2-2 by escaping with a hard-fought 26-24 victory over the Saints. The total for this game opened at 43.5 points.
New York Jets (+2.5) at Minnesota Vikings (-2.5)
The Jets slogged through four quarters at a rainy MetLife Stadium against the underdog Broncos and surprisingly came up short, 10-9. Aaron Rodgers, Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall, the team’s Big Three, all continue to play below their standards. Minnesota managed to remain unbeaten despite nearly blowing a three-touchdown lead, topping the Packers by a 31-29 score at Lambeau. The total for this London game, the first of the NFL’s International Series this season, has opened at 41.5 points.
Baltimore Ravens (-2.5) at Cincinnati Bengals (+2.5)
The Bengals finally started to look like the Bengals again this past Sunday as they took down the Panthers, 34-24. Baltimore also lived up to its pre-season expectations on Sunday as it smoked the Bills, 35-10. Derrick Henry ran for 199 yards in the Ravens’ win.
The Ravens opened as a -1.5 road favorite and was initially -146 on the moneyline. BAL versus CIN opened with a total of 48.5.
“As of (early in the week), we’re taking a majority of Ravens bets,” BetMGM’s Christian Cipollini told Eli Hershkovich on the Behind The Lines podcast. “I do suspect a lot of that is just because of the -2.5. A lot of bettors will target that -2.5 just in case it happens to go to -3 because it can end up being such a big swing. I also suspect if we do end up going to -3 we’ll start coming back and will be taking Bengals action.”
Buffalo Bills (-1) at Houston Texans (+1)
The new-look Bills crashed down to Earth with a 35-10 thumping from the Ravens on Sunday. Buffalo was playing on a short week, but wilting against a contender may cast some doubts heading into this matchup.
The Texans brushed themselves off from their own lopsided loss by getting past a desperate division rival in the Jaguars, 24-20. Houston got it done without both Joe Mixon (ankle), who could return for this game, and Tank Dell (chest). The Bills will be without Von Miller, who has been suspended for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. The total for this contest opened at 47 points.
Indianapolis Colts (+3) at Jacksonville Jaguars (-3)
The Colts saw Anthony Richardson exit with a hip injury in the first quarter, but Joe Flacco and the defense did enough to lead Indy to a 27-24 victory over the Steelers. In addition to Richardson, who stated after the game he may miss this divisional clash, Jonathan Taylor also suffered an ankle sprain that isn’t believed to be as serious as some of his past similar injuries.
The Jaguars put up quite the fight in a bid to avoid an 0-4 start, but they fell just short to the Texans, 24-20. Trevor Lawrence and his pass catchers did appear to be more cohesive and Tank Bigsby continued to look just as effective as Travis Etienne. Nonetheless, Jacksonville remains on the outside looking in for a victory. The total for this game opened at 46 points.
Cleveland Browns (+3.5) at Washington Commanders (-3.5)
The Browns were unable to sidestep a 1-3 start, as they fell to the Raiders on the road by a 20-16 score. Deshaun Watson once again threw for under 200 yards.
The Jayden Daniels Experience continued in spectacular fashion this past Sunday, with the rookie signal-caller winning a showdown with Kyler Murray and the Cardinals by a 42-14 score. Daniels posted an 82.0 percent completion percentage in the process. The total for this game opened at 43.5 points.
Carolina Panthers (+4) at Chicago Bears (-4)
The Panthers were very competitive for the second straight week with Andy Dalton at the helm. Carolina’s defense, which appears to have lost star linebacker Shaq Thompson for the season with an Achilles tear, couldn’t hold up their end of the bargain.
The Bears continued to look like a work in progress on offense, but D’Andre Swift’s first big performance in his Chicago tenure helped them overcome the Rams, 24-18. Caleb Williams still scuffled despite the return of Keenan Allen from a two-game absence, throwing for only 157 yards. The betting over under for this game opened at 42.5 points.
Miami Dolphins (+1.5) at New England Patriots (-1.5)
NFL Week 5 odds showed the Dolphins as -1 road favorites against the Patriots ahead of their MNF loss to the Titans. The Pats are now favored at most sportsbooks with a -1.5 line.
Tua Tagovailoa is still on injured reserve and is ineligible to return against the Pats. Miami will likely again start Tyler Huntley under center.
The Patriots unsurprisingly were manhandled by a healthier 49ers team on the road by a 30-13 score this past Sunday. Despite the dismal performance, head coach Jerod Mayo has confirmed Jacoby Brissett will remain the team’s starting QB. The point total for this game opened at 36.5.
Arizona Cardinals (+7.5) at San Francisco 49ers (-7.5)
The Cardinals saw the vibes from their encouraging first three games quickly dissipate at the hands of the Jayden Daniels-led Commanders, who dominated in every sense during a 42-14 win in Glendale.
The 49ers got both Deebo Samuel and George Kittle back from one-game absences and fittingly made short work of the Patriots, 30-13. Jordan Mason continued to make Christian McCaffrey’s absence mainly a non-issue with 160 total yards and a rushing TD. The total for ARI vs. SF opened at 50.5 points.
Las Vegas Raiders (+2.5) at Denver Broncos (-2.5)
The Raiders got a tongue lashing from head coach Antonio Pierce to start the week and responded with a 20-16 home victory over the Browns. Vegas played without Davante Adams (hamstring).
The Broncos’ defense continued to be one of the big early stories of their season, as they helped lead the way in a 10-9 win over Aaron Rodgers and the Jets at a rainy MetLife Stadium. The betting over under for this game opened at 37 points.
Green Bay Packers (-3.5) at Los Angeles Rams (+3.5)
The Packers saw Jordan Love return to action from his two-game absence due to an MCL injury. After shaking off some rust in the first half, the talented signal-caller nearly pulled off a comeback victory over the Vikings before Green Bay fell short, 31-29.
The Rams continued to field a short-handed receiving corps, and despite the best efforts of Matthew Stafford and Kyren Williams, they couldn’t overcome the Bears at Soldier Field. Los Angeles still projects to be without Cooper Kupp (ankle) for this showdown against the Packers. NFL Week 5 odds showed that the total for this game opened at 48 points.
New York Giants (+6) at Seattle Seahawks (-6)
The Giants played fairly competitively in their Thursday night game against the Cowboys. New York ultimately fell by a 20-15 count. However, rookie first-round pick Malik Nabers continued to look like an instant star with 12 catches for 115 yards.
The Seahawks hung with the Lions in Detroit on Monday but lost 42-29. After allowing just 43 points total in their first three games combined, the Seattle defense has a great chance to get back on track against Big Blue. The total for this game opened at 42 points.
Dallas Cowboys (+2) at Pittsburgh Steelers (-2)
The Cowboys managed to even their record at 2-2 on Thursday night but just barely. Dallas edged the Giants by a 20-15 score in a game where they saw two key defensive pieces in Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence suffer injuries.
The Steelers came very close to moving to 4-0, but they came up just short to the Colts on the road by a 27-24 score. However, Justin Fields took yet another step forward in cementing his status as the team’s starter, throwing for a season-high 312 yards and scoring three total TDs (one passing, two rushing). Dallas will be without defensive end Demarcus Lawrence (foot). The total for the game opened at 41.5 points.
New Orleans Saints (+5.5) at Kansas City Chiefs (-5.5)
The Saints’ early-season offensive juggernaut has definitely slipped a couple of notches, as New Orleans fell to 2-2 with a 26-24 loss to the division-rival Falcons in a game that also versatile weapon Taysom Hill exit with a rib injury of unknown severity.
The Chiefs have even bigger health-related concerns, as their 17-14 win over the Chargers could prove to be pyrrhic victory. Rashee Rice is likely out for the season and Marquise Brown isn’t returning anytime soon. NFL Week 5 odds for Saints versus Chiefs opened at 42.5 points.
