Bills At Texans: NFL Week 5 Odds

Odds below are the best current prices across NFL betting sites. Find opening odds further down in this post.

If the Texans are going to ascend to the ranks of the elite, they’ll have to start beating some stronger competition, especially at home. This is a chance to make a statement that they belong in the same breath as the Chiefs, Bills, and Ravens at the top of the conference.

Of paramount importance will be protecting their passer against a Bills defense that makes its bones up front. They rely on getting pressure without blitzing. Von Miller looks rejuvenated early this season. An inability to protect C.J. Stroud gave Houston no chance against the Ravens in last year’s playoffs.

We’ll see if Houston gets its playmakers back. RB Joe Mixon and WR Tank Dell are already announced out for Week 4, so Houston will hope they’re able to return for Week 5.

The Bills have their own injury concerns on defense, with the back seven hit very hard. Thus far, Josh Allen and a dominating offense have carried them and made life easy on the D by turning opponents one-dimensional.

Advanced metrics love the Bills in the early going. They rank first in net EPA, first in DVOA, and have a whopping +1.9 net yards per play.

Still, it’s important to keep in mind they haven’t faced a very high level of competition. Their opponents have two combined wins heading into Week 4.

What do the Bills at Texans Opening Odds mean?

Adjusted for the sportsbook vig at best prices, Buffalo has a 50% implied win rate.

DraftKings Sportsbook opened the Texans as the favorite, and that hasn’t changed. The over/under also remains static at 47.

However, while most betting apps still list this game at even money or with Texans odds as slight favorites, FanDuel Sportsbook is going the other way. They favor Bills odds on the road here.

The Bills have opened with a pretty easy schedule, but they’ll face a significant test in Week 4 playing the Ravens on the road. If they come back down to earth, look for the Texans to inch out to small favorites at -1 or -2. The market has been in on this team pretty strongly, betting them heavily in at least two of the three weeks to open the season.
