Betting the point spread is when you wager on how many points a team will win or lose by. A plus sign in front of the spread denotes the underdog, and a minus sign denotes the favorite.

In this case, the Giants would have to win by at least 4 points if you bet them to cover the point spread (-3.5). A spread bet on the Bears would win if they win the game or lose by 3 or fewer points.

Betting the moneyline is simply betting on which particular team will win a game.

The betting total is the number of combined points the two teams will score. Bettors can choose to bet the over or under on how many total points will be scored in the game.

Bears at Giants Betting Insights

Why The Bears Can Cover The Spread

The Bears are 2-1. Sure their passing game stinks, but the rushing attack is robust with RB Khalil Herbert’s emergence. The second-year running back has 240 rushing yards at a whopping 7.2 yards per rush and 3 touchdowns. The Bears also have the best defensive player on the field in LB Roquan Smith, who had 16 tackles and an INT in last week’s win. The Giants run defense is in the bottom quartile of the league allowing 137 yards per game at 5.3 yards per rush. Not the kind of defensive numbers to support as a betting favorite when combined with the Giants No. 30 pass offense and No. 21 offense in yards per game (337 ) and yards per play (5.1).

Why The Giants Can Cover The Spread

Have you watched Bears QB Justin Fields and the Bears passing game? Chicago ranks dead last in the NFL in pass efficiency with a measly 78 passing yards per game. That makes Daniel Jones and the Giants passing attack (162 YPG) look robust. The Bears pass protection has been awful, and the Chicago ranks No. 30 in TheLines NFL power rankings.  The Bears defense is also allowing 157 rushing yards per game to rank No. 30 in the NFL. A healthy dose of Giants RB Saquon Barkley will be on display as he leads the NFC in rushing with 317 yards.

Reasons To Bet The Over

This is the only Week 4 contest with a game total below 40 points. Last week there were three such games, and all three went over the total. That included the Bears 23-20 win over the Texans, and Giants 23-16 loss to the Cowboys. With both defenses below average and allowing 5.7 (CHI) and 5.9 (NYG) yards per play, there should be opportunities for these two sub-par offenses to have more success this week.

Reasons To Bet The Under

As noted, these two offenses leave little to be desired. Combined with poor quarterback play and offensive EPA, points could be limited again. The game script figures to be heavily focused on both teams rushing attacks. That will keep the clock moving, and offensive yardage projections don’t figure to reach 300 yards or very little more for each team.

Bears at Giants Matchups to watch for

Giants RB Saquon Barkley vs Bears defensive front

New York is averaging 169 rushing yards per game (No. 4). The G-men just rushed for 167 yards against the Cowboys stronger run defense in Week 3. Saquon Barkley leads the NFC in rushing with 317 yards in three games. He ran for 81 yards on just 14 carries against the Cowboys and scored the Giants only touchdown. The Bears defense has allowed 157 rushing yards per game and teams are running the ball 33 times per game against Chicago. In fact, the Packers rushed for 203 yards against the Bears, and 49ers 176 yards on a wet field and rainy weather at Soldier Field. Barkley could get over his rushing prop (80.5) in the first half.

  • Barkley anytime TD:

Bears RB Khalil Herbert vs. Giants defensive front

Not to be outdone, Khalil Herbert Bears has 240 rushing yards for the Bears No. 2 rushing attack averaging 187 yards per game. Khalil is averaging 7.3 yards per rush after his 157 yard and 2 TD performance against the Texans last week in a 23-20 win. The Giants defense has allowed 176 and 146 rushing yards the last two games and 5.3 yards per rush to rank No. 28 in the league.

Herbert anytime TD:

Final Thoughts

Tune in to watch a heavy dose of rushing between two teams lacking quality pass blocking and passing attacks. Can’t feel confident laying -3.5 or even the key number 3 on the Giants with their sub-par defense that allowed at least 6.0 yards per play to the pedestrian offenses of Cowboys and Titans. But betting on QB Justin Fields on the road and taking back a small price with the Bears poor pass protection doesn’t offer much appeal either.  Best of luck navigating Bears Giants odds.
