Various NFL Week 4 injuries have helped trigger some market movement. One is Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert (ankle), whose status against the Chiefs is unknown after reinjuring his ankle. Saints tailback Alvin Kamara (hip/rib) also surfaced on the injury report midweek. Among the odds for NFL Week 4, let’s look at Herbert and other key names to which bettors should pay attention.

team-by-team injuries for NFL Week 4
chargers qb justin herbert
On Monday, Herbert underwent an MRI on his ankle, which showed his was “progressing,” according to Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh. He’s been limited over the first two days of practice.
After Herbert played through the injury against the Steelers, the betting market expects him to do so again. Los Angeles was an eight-point underdog versus the defending Super Bowl champs earlier in the week, but it’s now priced at the key number of a touchdown. Remember that the Chargers could be without starting tackles Rashawn Slater (pec) and Joe Alt (MCL sprain).
Saints running back Alvin Kamara
Kamara was added to Wednesday’s injury report after dealing with Week 3 hip and rib injuries. He practiced on Thursday in a limited fashion.
Granted, the market has shown interest in the Falcons in their three contests. Couple that with the notion that running backs aren’t typically worth much to the point spread, and there’s no direct correlation between Kamara’s injuries and Atlanta rising from -1.5 to -2/2.5. Hence, Kamara’s situation differs from Herbert’s regarding the market and NFL injuries.
It’s worth noting that Kamara played through a rib cartilage fracture in Week 1 of the 2022 campaign.
Texans Injuries
Collins (hamstring), the Texans’ No. 1 wide receiver, was tacked onto Thursday’s injury report. Collins was deemed a limited participant, so his status for Sunday’s tilt against the Jaguars is unknown. No. 3 wide receiver Tank Dell (chest) and tailback Joe Mixon (ankle) also failed to suit up in either practice.
Following Jacksonville’s blowout loss in Buffalo, Houston was adjusted from -5.5 to -7. The market responded by betting the Jaguars down to +6.5 on Wednesday. These injuries have certainly impacted the number ever since, with some books listing Trevor Lawrence and Co. as a six-point underdog.
Before Week 3, Collins was pegged with hip/foot injuries but played through them. Read more about this matchup in my NFL Week 4 best bets column.
Bears WR Rome Odunze
Odzune, the Bears’ rookie wide receiver, was included in Thursday’s injury report with a hip injury. Fantasy injury analyst Jeff Mueller stated, “Hopefully, it’s not hip flexor/soft tissue, which would come with high reinjury risk in-game.”
Regardless of Odunze’s impending status, Chicago has been bet up to a field-goal favorite against Los Angeles. With veteran wideout Keenan Allen (heel) expected to return, the Bears should be well-suited to attack Los Angeles’ depleted defense.
Lions TE Sam LaPorta
LaPorta was initially carted off the field against Arizona with an ankle sprain before returning. However, his snaps decreased substantially in the second half. But on Friday, LaPorta returned to practice, so it appears he’s on track to take the field against the Seahawks on Monday night.
Like other NFL injuries, LaPorta’s presence is not substantial enough to affect the spread. Nevertheless, Seattle’s defense has struggled to defend tight ends, surrendering the fourth-most targets per game to the position.
For reference, the Lions opened as 4.5-point home favorites before the line shrunk to -3.5.
