Broncos vs. Raiders Betting Insights

Why the Broncos can cover the spread

In Broncos Raiders odds, Denver is the underdog to a winless team. So that’s always a good position to be in. Despite the offence’s travails so far this season, the Broncos have managed an elite defence. That should be enough against a Raiders team that’s been bad so far this season.

Throw in the chance that Russell Wilson finally is what they thought they were trading for, and Denver looks attractive. If Russ can get going, the Broncos have the better Defence and might even have the better offence.

Why The Raiders can cover the spread

The problem with that theory, and the reason the Raiders are live, is that Russ has been very bad to start this season. The Broncos have yet to crack 20 points in any game, and have the 22nd best offence per DVOA.

If Russ can’t find some rhythm with his receivers and this offence doesn’t take advantage of the weak Raiders pass defence, the Broncos won’t be able to score enough to win.

Reasons to bet the over

The Raiders defence can be rather bad – they let the Titans score 24 in the 1st Half of Week 3 – which should give Russ and the Broncos some life. If they can find rhythm, the Broncos should be able to put up a lot of points. If Derek Carr and Davante Adams can get on the same page again, there’s shootout potential here.

The other way this goes over is if the Broncos, who have been lucky in Red Zone Defence this year, regress and concede more Touchdowns. If the Raiders take advantage of their Red Zone opportunities, then the Broncos will need to be more aggressive.

Reasons to bet the under

The Broncos have the 5th best Defence by DVOA and have conceded the second fewest points so far this season. Their offence is anemic, Wilson can’t move the ball, and the Raiders are 30th in Red Zone Offence this year.

The Raiders haven’t been quite so bad, but even then, they’re averaging less than 22 points a game – not what was hoped for when they made the huge splash with the Adams trade. 20th by DVOA and 21st by PFF makes clear they’re running a little hot to be 10th in points scored, meaning regression is likely.

Broncos vs. Raiders Props: Matchups To Watch For

Derek Carr passing yards: O/U / ()

If the Raiders are going to have any hope offensively, they need Carr. The Broncos are 19th in the league in Passing Yards/Game, and it’s their weakest link. If the Raiders want to take advantage, they need to do it through the air.

Russell Wilson passing yards: O/U / ()

Russ needs to start cooking soon, if the Broncos are going to have a chance. If he can’t find some connection with his receivers, Denver’s in trouble. That said, against the 26th ranked pass defence by yards/game, Russ will have every opportunity.

Final Thoughts

If this were a game between two teams with lesser names, but the same stats, the total would seem way too high.  The Broncos have shown nothing offensively, and their defence should stifle Carr to Adams connections.

The Broncos should be better than they’ve shown, but at some point they have to show it. That said, their defence could easily be enough to beat the winless Raiders, who have gone 0-3 despite not yet facing a team with a winning record.

If the Broncos win, it’ll either be because Russ finally plays up to the name, or because the defence shuts down the Raiders. For the Raiders, they need to make sure to convert in the Red Zone, because they might not get many chances to score. Best of luck betting Raiders Broncos odds.
