NFL Week 3 odds have been released, giving sharp bettors a chance to start locking down some lines that could be appreciably different in the coming days. Here were the biggest opening point spreads of the week.
- Patriots (+6.5) at Jets (-6.5)
- Giants (+6.5) at Browns (-6)
- Broncos (+6.5) at Buccaneers (-6.5)
- 49ers (-7.5) at Rams (+7.5)
- Commanders (+8) at Bengals (-8)
Here are all of the Week 3 NFL lines to consider taking action on.
New England Patriots (+6.5) at New York Jets (-6.5)
The Jets had no issue dismissing the Patriots as New York won, 24-3, at MetLife Stadium. Jets spread bettors cashed on the -6.5 line. The game went under the 39.0 total.
Green Bay Packers (+3) at Tennessee Titans (-3)
The Packers survived the first Jordan Love absence. They topped the Colts by a 16-10 score last week. The Titans fell to 0-2 with a second straight 24-17 loss, this time to the Jets.
Quarterback Malik Willis played a mistake-free game while sticking to high-percentage throws. He may have more leeway in his second start this week. Will Levis made another key mistake in defeat. He’s looking for his first 200+ yard passing day going into this matchup. NFL Week 3 odds show that the total for this game opened at 38 points. The GB vs. TEN point spread has moved a tick towards the Titans. It went from Titans -2 early in the week to Titans -3 by Wednesday.
Chicago Bears (+1.5) at Indianapolis Colts (-1.5)
Rookie QB Caleb Williams couldn’t keep up with C.J. Stroud and the Texans defense this past weekend. The Colts weren’t able to muster much offense either in a loss to the Packers.
The focus will be on two talented but inconsistent quarterbacks in this interconference battle. Both Williams and Anthony Richardson have struggled with accuracy. Meanwhile, the matchup lines up well for D’Andre Swift’s first breakout game with Chicago. The Colts are surrendering an NFL-high 237.0 rushing yards per game. The total for the game opened at 43.5 points and it remains at that number.
New York Giants (+6.5) at Cleveland Browns (-6.5)
The Giants went toe-to-toe with the Commanders in Malik Nabers’ NFL coming-out party. However, they fell by a 21-18 score.
The Browns showed improvement and bounced back to top the Jags by five points. Both offenses, particularly the quarterbacks, still have plenty of concerns heading into Week 3. The total for Giants versus Borwns opened at 39 points. Deshaun Watson and the Browns were -7 betting favorites early in the week but the line went to Browns -6 at most sports betting sites in the middle portion of the week. By Friday, this line was Browns -6.5.
Philadelphia Eagles (+2.5) at New Orleans Saints (-2.5)
The Eagles were clipped by the Falcons on Monday. Philly will likely again be without AJ Brown for their game against the Saints.
The Saints look like the NFL’s best offense through two weeks. They shocked the Cowboys by a 41-19 score Sunday. Derek Carr leads the NFL with a 142.4 QB rating and 11.4 yards per attempt. The total for the game opened at 49.5 points. Jalen Hurts and the Eagles were -2.5 on the lookahead line but the spread has flipped to New Orleans. The Saints were -2.5 favorites by mid-week.
LA Chargers (+1.5) at Pittsburgh Steelers (-1.5)
The Chargers dismantled the Panthers, 26-3. The Steelers got another win under Justin Fields and are 2-0 themselves. They squeaked by the Broncos, 13-6.
This has the makings of a ground-centered throwback game given the preferred methods of the Chargers’ Jim Harbaugh and the Steelers’ Arthur Smith. It remains to be seen if it will be Fields or Russell Wilson under center for Pittsburgh. NFL Week 3 odds boards have the total at 38.
“I think this will be a recurring theme with the Steelers,” said Magee. “You’ll just see the lowest total on the board all year. Some sharp money came in on the Chargers. It opened at +2.5 and now it’s down to +1.5.”
Houston Texans (-2) at Minnesota Vikings (+2)
C.J. Stroud and the Texans proved ready for primetime last weekend. They impressively handled the Bears by a 19-13 score. The Vikings made a statement of their own. They topped the 49ers for the second straight season.
Justin Jefferson (quadriceps) is set to play against the Texans. Jordan Addison, however, may not suit up as he is nursing an ankle injury. Addison did not practice Thursday. The total for this game opened at 49.5 points.
Denver Broncos (+6.5) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-6.5)
The Broncos went through more Bo Nix growing pains this past weekend. They fell to the Steelers, 13-6. The Buccaneers went into the Motor City and upset the Lions by a 20-16 score.
Denver has another steep challenge against a Bucs team brimming with confidence and welcoming them into likely steamy conditions. Tampa Bay is in good health through the first two weeks. Baker Mayfield is also playing at the same superior level he flashed last season. The Broncos opened as as +7 underdogs but that number is now +6.5 at most NFL betting sites.
Carolina Panthers (+6) at Las Vegas Raiders (-6)
The Panthers took a 26-3 thumping from the Chargers on Sunday. They then benched former first overall pick Bryce Young for Andy Dalton on Monday.
The Raiders pulled off an improbable 10-point comeback on the road against the Ravens. They’re three points away from a 2-0 mark coming into this matchup. The CAR vs. LV point spread opened with the Raiders as -7 favorites. This game’s number now sits at Raiders -6 at most books.
Miami Dolphins (+4.5) at Seattle Seahawks (-4.5)
The Dolphins took a 31-10 loss to the Bills on TNF and lost Tua Tagovailoa to another concussion. The Seahawks traveled cross-country and escaped New England with a 23-20 overtime win.
Tagovailoa has been placed on injured reserve. Sklyar Thompson has already been announced as Miami’s starter in this game. He does have a fair amount of experience and has no shortage of impressive weapons. Bettors have already seen this point spread go from Seahawks -6.5 early in the week to Seahawks -4.5 later in the week. Seattle will be at a notable rest disadvantage for this game but can attack with three starting-caliber wideouts. The total for the game opened at 42.
Baltimore Ravens (-1) at Dallas Cowboys (+1)
The Ravens blew a 10-point second-half lead and lost to the Raiders, 26-23. The Cowboys were overwhelmed by the Saints’ juggernaut offense in a 41-19 home defeat.
This has the makings of the most fascinating game of the week. Baltimore is 0-2 for the first time since 2015 and desperate. Dallas is 1-1 but anxious to atone for the embarrassment of its 22-point loss in the home opener. The total for the game has opened at 48. Dallas had been favored by -1 or -1.5 early in the week but it has flipped to Cowboys +1 in most spots.
Detroit Lions (-3) at Arizona Cardinals (+3)
The Lions couldn’t squeak past a second straight postseason opponent. The Buccaneers edged them, 20-16. The Cardinals looked thoroughly dominant in a 41-10 dismantling of the Rams.
Amon-Ra St. Brown emerged from Sunday’s loss with a lower leg injury. He’s expected to play in Week 3 but will bear monitoring. Detroit will have to figure out how to slow down Marvin Harrison Jr. after the rookie fourth overall pick’s 4-130-2 line Sunday. The total for the game has opened at 52 points.
San Francisco 49ers (-6.5) at Los Angeles Rams (+6.5)
The 49ers will be without Christian McCaffrey (Achilles/calf) for at least three more games. They fell to the Vikings without him this past Sunday. Jordan Mason looks like a fine fill-in but Brock Purdy will need to bounce back from a two-turnover performance Sunday.
The Rams lost Cooper Kupp to an ankle injury at halftime of a 41-10 throttling by the Cardinals. The potential length of his absence is unknown. The development is borderline disastrous when combined with the IR status of Puka Nacua. The matchup against the Niners defense is also daunting under any circumstance. The total for the game has opened at 45.5 points.
Kansas City Chiefs (-3) at Atlanta Falcons (+3)
The Chiefs escaped by the thinnest of margins against the Bengals. The 26-25 last-second victory was marred by the fractured fibula suffered by Isiah Pacheco. Kansas City will rely on Carson Steele and Samaje Perine to fill the void in the backfield. Andy Reid also signed veteran RB Kareem Hunt to the practice squad.
The Falcons are fresh off a narrow road victory over the Eagles. The total for KC vs. ATL opened at 47 points.
Jacksonville Jaguars (+5) at Buffalo Bills (-5)
The Jaguars once again struggled on offense this past Sunday. They mustered just 13 points in their home opener and Trevor Lawrence completed under 50.0 percent of his throws. Evan Engram also suffered a hamstring injury in pregame warmups and is week-to-week.
The Bills dominated the Dolphins on the road Thursday night. Buffalo’s James Cook scored three total TDs and is thriving in the team’s new offense. Buffalo’s rest/home field advantage and Jacksonville’s offensive ineptitude give the hosts a big projected edge. The total for the game opened at 46.5 points.
Washington Commanders (+7.5) at Cincinnati Bengals (-7.5)
The Commanders’ Jayden Daniels continued to put encouraging play on film this past weekend. He led Washington to a close victory over the Giants while misfiring on only six attempts.
The Bengals suffered a 26-25 heartbreaker at Arrowhead Stadium this past Sunday. They lost by a field goal as time expired and saw Tee Higgins (hamstring) miss a second straight game.
Cincinnati did a good job pressuring and harassing Patrick Mahomes for large swaths of the game. They also saw both Mike Gesicki and rookie Jermaine Burton flash the potential to serve as viable complementary options alongside Ja’Marr Chase. They get an advantageous matchup in an inconsistent Commanders secondary that allowed 10 receptions for 127 yards to the Giants’ Malik Nabers. The total for the game opened at 48 points.
