  • Jets (+9.5) at Cowboys (-9.5)

On the surface, some bettors are probably surprised by a result or two among this past Sunday’s outcomes. Let’s take the Buccaneers, which went into Minnesota and knocked off the Vikings as a +4 underdog. Although Tampa Bay outgained Minnesota by 2.3 yards per play (YPP), it greatly benefited from generating three takeaways.

There are two ways to look at this result. As I’ve mentioned ad nauseam, turnovers aren’t predictive. A collection of bettors may view that notion and aim to fade the Bucs against the lowly Bears on Sunday. Nevertheless, the Bucs tied for the ninth-fewest takeaways in 2022.

Hence, Tampa Bay may be headed for a bit of positive turnover regression this year. This angle is just one of the many ways to approach the NFL Week 2 betting market. Below are a few games to keep in mind.

NFL Week 2 betting lines

There are plenty of intriguing betting opportunities when looking at NFL Week 2 odds. Here are just a few.

Ravens (+3.5) at Bengals (-3.5)

This spread has already shifted Baltimore’s way. The look-ahead line had Cincinnati favored by over a field goal at some sportsbooks — with a standard 10 cents of juice to boot. This movement is a result of the Ravens’ convincing win over the Texans.

Meanwhile, Joe Burrow and company laid a dud in Cleveland. That said, Baltimore’s injury issues are certainly worth monitoring ahead of this AFC North tilt. Not only is tailback J.K. Dobbins reportedly out for the season with a torn Achilles, but offensive linemen Ronnie Stanley and Tyler Linderbaum, along with safety Marcus Williams, are also banged up.

Packers (+1.5) at Falcons (-1.5)

This NFC duel features a pair of teams that attracted offseason betting when it came to divisional betting odds. The look-ahead spread was around Atlanta -1.5, yet Green Bay is now favored after a dominant showing in Chicago without wideout Christian Watson.

But it’s worth noting that each of these lines is a dead number — the opposite of a key number.

Seahawks (+5) at Lions (-5)

In another NFC tilt, this contest delivers even more of an alternation from the look-ahead line. Detroit was originally priced as a field goal favorite. After the Lions’ opening night win against the defending Super Bowl champs, they’re nearing a spread of -6.

On the flip side, Seattle lost outright to the Rams, as a 4.5-point favorite on Sunday. One could argue that the adjustment is too big, especially since the Lions greatly benefited from Kadarius Toney’s hands (or lack thereof). His miscues aren’t predictive by any means.

Raiders (+9.5) at Bills (-9.5)

This is the largest line of the week as the Bills opened as -9.5 favorites and went as high as Buffalo -10 on Monday. Following Buffalo’s ugly performance against the Jets on Monday Night Football, the spread moved to Raiders +9 at most sportsbooks.

Las Vegas grinded out a 17-16 win in Denver this past Sunday but may be without WR Jakobi Meyers against the Bills. Defensive end Chandler Jones remains away from the team because of a personal matter.
