Seahawks At 49ers Odds: Spread, Moneyline, Over/Under

When using the odds table, click the dropdown menu and select the type of bet you wish to make.

Betting the point spread is when you wager on how many points a team will win or lose by. A plus sign in front of the spread denotes the underdog, and a minus sign denotes the favorite.

In this case, the 49ers would have to win by at least nine points if you bet them to cover the point spread (-8.5). A spread bet on the Seahawks would win if they win the game or lose by fewer than nine.

Betting the moneyline is simply betting on which particular team will win a game.

The betting total is the number of combined points the two teams will score. Bettors can choose to bet the over or under on how many total points will be scored in the game.

Seahawks At 49ers betting insights

Why the 49ers can cover the spread

Just throw Week 1 out for this 49ers offense. They played in completely awful conditions that are 0% predictive for their actual ability to gain yards and score points going forward. If this offense performs as expected — remember, they closed around +1500 in preseason Super Bowl odds — then they should enjoy a lot of success against a defense that allowed a ton of yards to Denver but benefited from huge turnover luck. And the defense has a mismatch against an awful Seahawks OL and Geno Smith.

Why The Seahawks can cover the spread

This is a lot of points for an offense led by a completely unproven QB to cover. Trey Lance has 99 career pass attempts and has not shown anything particularly promising with his arm in that time. If this is going to be a grind-it-out offense that relies on the ground game, covering numbers close to double digits will prove difficult. Certainly, if George Kittle sits along with Elijah Mitchell, this offense looks pretty limited in terms of playmakers.

Reasons to bet the over

Some reports had initially detailed a rainy, windy day in the Bay Area. It looks like the forecast has cleared up considerably as of Friday. Better weather would likely let Trey Lance show what he’s got, and the Seahawks have the receiving weapons to get on the board if they fall behind.

Reasons to bet the under

Both of these teams might have ground-bound offenses if Trey Lance passing the ball is as unreliable as it has looked so far. Jeff Wilson caps the big-play potential of the 49ers and the Seahawks have always leaned a bit too hard into the run with Pete Carroll as the coach. The Seahawks also have a daunting task blocking the 49ers pass rush.

49ers At Seahawks matchups to watch for

Deebo Samuel Vs. Seahawks CBs

Deebo Samuel did most of his damage on the ground in the opener, but the fact remains his primary job is catching passes and then running a long way. A rather inviting pair of targets face him here in Mike Jackson (second-year corner out of Miami with 95 career snaps) and Tariq Woolen (fifth-round rookie who converted from WR in college). Particularly if Kittle sits, though, the defensive plan will revolve around slowing Samuel.

Nick Bosa Vs. Seahawks OTs

Nick Bosa has been wreaking havoc on opposing OLs since he entered the league, and he’s likely licking his chops for this matchup. The Seahawks start a pair of rookies outside in first-rounder Charles Cross and third-rounder Abraham Lucas. Cross garnered a horrific 31.7 pass pro grade from PFF in the opener, though Lucas was awarded a better mark of 66.8. Geno Smith has never been the best at dealing with pressure, so it’s imperative his tackles keep him at least somewhat clean.

Trey Lance Vs. Seahawks LBs

Lance ran the ball 13 times in the opener against the Bears. While that was perhaps due in part to the conditions, his lack of comfort passing in the pocket means he might lean into this skill more early in his career. However, the Seahawks do have some speed at linebacker in recent high draft choices Cody Barton and Jordyn Brooks. Whether they can hawk down Lance on his forays outside the pocket could prove key.

Final thoughts

Both of these teams played Week 1 games that leave them difficult to read heading into Week 2. In the Seahawks’ case, they were always going to be ultra-amped for Monday Night Football against their old QB who asked out. They won’t bring that much energy for the rest of the season. For the Niners, they just played in sloppy conditions that don’t really tell us a whole lot. On the surface, this does seem like a lot of points to lay with a QB who hasn’t proven he can do anything at a high level in the NFL. However, the fact remains that despite the result, the Seahawks got dominated in terms of efficiency by the Broncos. Preseason priors will probably hold the most weight for bettors trying to handicap this one. Best of luck handicapping Seahawks 49ers odds.
