NFL Week 17 teasers

Teaser bets remain a popular option with many NFL bettors. But you must use caution when selecting which teams you’ll tease, as you can’t win long term without a sound strategy. At TheLines, we’ll go over each week’s NFL slate to see which teams fit best in teasers. Today, we look at options for NFL Week 17 teasers.

Teasers continued to dominate in Week 16. The late-season recovery has been stunning and profitable for those who stuck with them. Last week, the highlighted plays went 7-0, including 4-0 on the premium options.

The Best NFL Week 17 Teasers

Week 17 looks a little lighter for teasers, but there are still a couple of pretty solid options.

Browns (+2) At Commanders

An expected rockfight between two teams that tend to play that way most weeks, so it’s no surprise a teaser figures to have solid value here.

The Commanders are making another switch at QB, bringing Carson Wentz back to the front lines, but that shouldn’t move the needle much either way. The bigger key is the lack of a strong rushing attack. Cleveland has a dreadful rushing defense, but the Commanders stink at running the ball, ranking 28th in rush offense DVOA. Brian Robinson is a nice story but is a bit of a plodder who doesn’t really threaten with big plays.

Unless Wentz shreds this Browns defense — and his highs can sometimes be explosive — this game should remain tight.

The biggest question will be if or when Deshaun Watson emerges from this rust. He shouldn’t need to do a ton to cover this teaser, but it’s been a slog thus far.

Seahawks (+1.5) Vs. Jets

Geno Smith’s play has fallen so far off that the Seahawks are now home underdogs to the slumping Jets, albeit the Jets getting QB Mike White back from injury. That has created a potential teaser opportunity, and the total is right for it.

The Seahawks have lost five of six, but they’ve still been mostly competitive aside from the thumping in Kansas City last week. Even though the 49ers dominated them as well, that was still a one-score game, as were each of the other losses.

While the Jets once looked like they were on the level of that 49ers unit, their defense has showed signs of slippage. They’re a shocking 20th in EPA/play allowed since Week 13. The Jaguars had no trouble driving the ball up and down the field on them only to settle for field goals.

Playing for their season at home, it’s a good spot to take the Seahawks in the teaser markets, but watch for the status of Tyler Lockett. His presence or absence could make the difference here.

Other Potential NFL Week 17 Teasers

Bengals (+1.5) Vs. Bills

This Monday Night Football jewel will surely attract an avalanche of betting interest. And many will be inclined to buy some points with the Bengals, a play our own Stephen Andress recommended on TheLines Discord.

The total for this one is sitting right around the border of where teaser expected values start to slide. Traditionally, that figure has been pegged as around 49. Playing the Bengals on a teaser makes the most sense if you lean to the under here as well.

Bengals bettors expecting more of a shootout would be best served just taking them on the moneyline.

The team has done solid work limiting the high-volume Chiefs passing game, although the Bills present a different look with more threatening receiving options and a battering ram at QB. Josh Allen’s high-variance style in 2022 also doesn’t lend itself to teasers, since his poor games usually involve turnovers. A couple of those would likely mean a Cincinnati outright victory as well.
