NFL Week 13 Look-Ahead Lines: Patriots Back In Underdog Role At Buffalo

Written By Mo Nuwwarah on November 28, 2021

NFL Week 13 look-ahead lines have hit the odds boards and the AFC East battle takes center stage as the Bills and Patriots battle for a likely place atop the division on Monday Night Football. The Bills have been tabbed early favorites, but how will this weekend affect that line?

Every week, usually on Thursday, TheLines will post look-ahead lines from FanDuel Sportsbook. These look aheads give an early snapshot of the current market opinions of teams absent the week-to-week bias that can take hold following weekend results.

Week 13 NFL Primetime Games

Thursday Night Football Odds

The Cowboys are in some flux on offense as it remains an open question when top receivers CeeDee Lamb and Amari Cooper will return to the team. Missing out on the extra rest after playing Thursday therefore may hurt them a bit here. Certainly, the Saints look to have a bigger opportunity to impress the market. If they can beat the Bills at home then this line figures to drop to Cowboys -3 or potentially even -2.5.

Sunday Night Football Odds

The Chiefs and Broncos got flexed to Sunday Night Football as the TV decision-makers appear to have no appetite for the shell of a former contender that the Seahawks have become. The resurgent Chiefs defense has them pushing toward the middle of the pack which is all they need if the offense continues to shake off its midseason troubles. They’re off this week and Denver doesn’t figure to be able to swing this line too much either way with their home game against the Chargers, so don’t feel any great urgency to fire this one early.

Monday Night Football Odds

The big one of the week, which may ultimately swing the division along with their second meeting here in a few weeks. Buffalo has frequently quaked this year when tested by strong opposition (and some not so strong). Should they do so once more in a tough road environment, and the Patriots take care of business against the Titans, you could see this number drop to +3.5 or even +3. There’s certainly no way, barring major injury, the Bills get anywhere near the -7.5 this line was projected at a few weeks ago. If you like New England, it’s probably wise to get in sooner rather than later.

MORE POTENTIAL WEEK 12 IMPACT ON WEEK 13 LOOK-AHEAD LINES

49ers At Seahawks

The original Sunday Night Football game, the Seahawks have stumbled even further since Russell Wilson returned from an injured finger. The Seahawks are 29th in offensive EPA/play in that time while scoring a total of 13 points. Is this just a plain old bad team or will Wilson shake off the rust and get this team back to playing respectable football? If they continue to look horrible and the 49ers take care of the Vikings at home, the Niners could actually rise to -3 favorites here. If the Seahawks look the Hawks of old and the Vikes pull an upset, this could swing to Seattle as favorites. This seems like one of the spots that has the most potential movement this week.

Colts At Texans

Perhaps not the most marquee of games, but it certainly seems ripe for a potential correction with the Colts only laying -7 in this spot. They get a huge matchup against the Bucs this week. Back-to-back wins against perceived inner circle Super Bowl contenders would certainly have to vault them upward in the eyes of the market. Even a close loss to Tampa would probably solidify them as a fringe contender. Meanwhile, the Texans have a rare opportunity as favorites this week but that also means a rare opportunity to truly embarrass themselves should they drop a home game to the Jets. Don’t be surprised to see this line give Houston the hook or even edge closer to -10, especially considering the Colts blasted them by 28 last time.

HOW TO USE NFL LOOK-AHEAD LINES

The look-ahead lines allow you a sneak peek at the projected lines for the following week’s games. This information from a leading online sportsbook will help provide lessons in understanding lines and projections before the current week’s games are played.

Many bettors tend to overreact to the previous week’s scores and results. The NFL Week 13 look-ahead lines provide a sense of stability from the oddsmaker. They sometimes offer a clear, unbiased snapshot of perceived team strength

Bettors can also gain an edge or find value in the lines once the weekend results take hold. See if you can find any over- or under-reactions by the market.

Of course, always take note of key injuries, travel and scheduling situations, and NFL power rankings. Making adjustments is part of the process, along with accounting for teams’ strengths, weaknesses, against-the-spread angles and personnel matchups.
