Lions Giants Spread, Moneyline, Over/Under

When using the Lions Giants spread table, click the dropdown menu to switch between the type of bet you wish to make –  spreads, totals, and moneylines.

Betting the point spread is when you wager on how many points a team will win or lose by. A plus sign in front of the Lions Giants spread denotes the underdog, and a minus sign denotes the favorite.

In this case, the Giants would have to win by at least 4 points if you bet them to cover the point spread (-3). Conversely, a spread bet on the Lions would need Detroit to either win outright, or lose by 1-2 points (depending on the spread you bet), or tie in overtime.

Betting the moneyline is simply betting on which particular team will win a game.

Wagering on the game total, or over/under, is simply a bet on how many total points the two teams will combine to score in a game.

Lions at Giants Betting Insights

Why The Lions Can Cover The Spread

The Lions have been out-gained in six straight games. But Detroit has been very competitive in every game this season outside of the 29-0 loss at New England. The Lions have also played a more difficult schedule with eight opponents sporting winning records through Week 10. The Giants have over-achieved with an average offense (15) and below average defense (24) by DVOA ratings.

Why The Giants Can Cover The Spread

The Giants run the ball an average of 34.4 times per game for 168 yards per game – both top-3 in the NFL. Last week vs Houston’s horrific run defense, the NFL’s leading rusher Saquon Barkley rushed for 152 years on a season-high 35 carries. Detroit’s run defense allows 161 rushing yards per game with no improvement the last three games. That ranks No. 31 in the NFL – just ahead of Houston, and No. 27 in rush defense DVOA ratings. Teams that rush for at least 150 yards in a game this season are 52-19 ATS this season including a season-high 10-1 SU and 9-2 ATS last week. Overall, the Lions allow a league-worst 6.5 yards per play and 7.8 yards per pass attempt.

Reasons To Bet The Over

As outlined above in the Giants rushing projection, New York will get their yards on the ground and in chunks both running and passing with QB Daniel Jones mobility and improved passing and accuracy. Jones completed 76% and 70% passes in  his two recent home games against Houston and Baltimore with QB Ratings of 112 and 153. The Lions defense has allowed a TD on a league-high 32.3% of opponent drives. The Giants defense ranks No. 23 in DVOA and No. 24 in pass defense DVOA and allows a league-worst 5.5 yards per rush. If you’re considering second half bets or options when live betting, know that the Giants have scored on 49.0% of their drives in the second half this season – the highest rate in the league

Reasons To Bet The Under

A syndicate group hit the under, and the Giants have allowed just 16, 20, 12, 23 and 16 points in five home games this season. But the total may rise back up so wait to bet a better number if you prefer to play under the total. Both teams project to have more than 350 yards offense, and it took 3 INT’s by Aaron Rodgers deep in Lions territory to keep the scoring down two weeks ago and 5 TO’s by the Lions to keep the scoring down against Dallas.

Lions at Giants Props: Matchups to Watch for

Saquon Barkley vs Lions run defense

As outlined above, the Lions run defense is very deficient ranking No. 27 in DVOA rush defense and No. 31 in the NFL allowing 161 yards per game rushing at 5.3 yards per rush. Barkley leads the NFL with 931 yards rushing – just over 100 rushing yards per game.

Daniel Jones vs Lions pass defense

Jones has completed a career-high 65.8% of his passes this season. The Lions rank in the bottom third of the NFL allowing 66.3% completions and a league-worst 7.8 yards per pass attempt. Detroit also allows a league-high 41 rushing yards per game to quarterbacks.

Jared Goff vs Giants pass defense

The Giants are allowing a league-high 63.4% of completed passes against them to result in a first down or touchdown. New York has allowed an average of 262 passing yards in their last three games against Trevor Lawrence, Geno Smith and Davis Mills, who passed for 319 yards last week against the Giants and Mills ranks near the bottom of the league in EPA and and QBR. The Giants blitz on a league-high 45.9% of passing plays, and Goff has the most passing yards this season against the blitz (827 yards) while averaging 8.2 yards per pass attempt (sixth). Goff had some of his best games this season against Chicago, Miami and Seattle with at least 8.6 yards per pass in each contest and those three teams join the Giants in the bottom half of DVOA pass defense ratings.

Final thoughts

A look at the Lions schedule shows they have played eight teams with winning records this season, and pulled out a road win last week 31-30 against the only losing team, Chicago. That score tells the story of the Lions struggles defensively as Detroit has allowed seven teams to score at least 27 points.

The match-ups for the Giants offense against the deficient Lions defense look very positive. Detroit QB Jared Goff appears to be able to have success passing as well to compliment the Lions above average running game. The total is rising in what shapes up to be a game with more scoring than projected.

Best of luck betting on the Lions Giants spread.
