The Los Angeles Chargers (5-3) are heading to northern California this week to play the San Francisco 49ers (4-4), with San Fran coming off its bye week this week. The Chargers 49ers spread has San Francisco favorites with L.A. on the moneyline to win the game. The total is .

With the Niners flashing in their first game with a full week of practice for Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco is feeling good. The Chargers will be hoping that Justin Herbert can step up to the plate to match the inventive Niners offense.

Just use the dropdown menu to toggle between the type of bet you want, and then make sure you’re getting the best price when you bet.

Chargers vs. Niners Betting Insights

Reasons The Chargers Can Cover The Spread

The Chargers have historically been better as an underdog than as a favourite, which helps here. Herbert has even been known to lead some valuable drives down late in games – as his injured drive to cover against the Chiefs in Week 2 shows us. With an offense led by Jimmy G against him, the backdoor will presumably be open, which could help Herbert.

The Chargers should be able to limit the Niners through the air – they’re top half of the league in most Pass Defense metrics, against a Niners Offense that is still reliant on a deeply unreliable QB.

Why The Niners can cover the spread

The problem for the Chargers is that they’re 29th by Rush D DVOA and 27th by PFF, against Kyle Shanahan and Christian McCaffrey. Even when their running backs were terrible the Niners were comfortable running the ball all game long to win. Remember when Jimmy G threw 8 times in an NFC title game? They’ll be able to recreate that now, especially now that they have a star running back.

The other reason to be optimistic about the Niners is their ability to get pressure – they rarely blitz, and they’re 5th in Pressure Rate. Even against a decent offensive line, the Niners should be able to get in Herbert’s face and wreak havoc.

Reasons to bet the over

The Niners might be so effective running the ball that they end up scoring relatively quickly, even if run heavy offenses tend to lead to less plays and lower scores. The Chargers in negative game script could also be efficient, especially if the Niners go to a more prevent-style defense.

Reasons to bet the under

The Niners are 27th in pace, and if they’re going to be looking to run the ball all over the lot then this game projects to be low scoring. The Chargers offense isn’t any great shakes – 20th by DVOA, 24th by PFF – and that’s before you remember they’re unlikely to have Keenan Allen or Mike Williams at full strength.

Chargers vs. Niners Props: Matchups To Watch For

Christian McCaffrey Rushing Yards: the Chargers are one of the worst rush Defenses in the league, and the Niners have a coaching staff that loves to run. They have form on completely giving up on passing the ball if they are having success on the ground, which means that there’s not just value in CMC’s over, but on alternative totals as well, given the expected volume and game script.

Final Thoughts

The Chargers getting 7 points against a Jimmy G offense is one of those things that seems superficially attractive, but isn’t. The Chargers just aren’t a good team this year, and they’re only superficially interesting because their QB got too much hype too fast.

The Chargers do not have an offense right now that can hang with the Niners, especially now that McCaffrey has had more time to get used to the scheme. The Niners should be able to run all over the Chargers, and if Jimmy G has to throw the ball less than 10 times, they will do it.

The Niners love teams like this Chargers team – it’s how they beat the Packers on route to their Super Bowl appearance, a team similarly constructed and similarly flawed. The Niners will average an obscene amount of yards/rush, and with that, the Chargers will be done.

The backdoor will be open for the Chargers potentially, but if the Niners can get home, Justin Herbert will be on his back – and if that happens, then there’s nothing the Chargers will be able to do.

Best of luck betting the Chargers 49ers spread and the rest of the Week 10 odds board
