NFL Week 10 betting lines

Ahead of Sunday Night Football, favorites went 9-2 outright among Week 9 odds. Nevertheless, the Commanders and Vikings won as underdogs of a field goal or more. The latter victory was conducted steered by Joshua Dobbs, whom Minnesota nabbed before the trade deadline. Better yet, Dobbs hadn’t taken a single practice snap with his new team.

Since we’re almost onto NFL Week 10 odds, let’s analyze four matchups in this breakdown and compare the point spreads to the look-ahead line. If you’re unfamiliar with the second of the two terms, it gives bettors a peek at projected point spreads for the following week’s games.

Limits on look-ahead lines tend to be slimmer than a “normal” week, but that shouldn’t be the purpose of how one perceives them. Since bettors normally have initial recency bias, look-ahead lines offer a clear snapshot of teams, according to the oddsmakers.

Cleveland Browns (+5.5) at Baltimore Ravens (-5.5)

Despite blanking Arizona on Sunday, Cleveland is two games behind Baltimore in the AFC North standings. It also fell to the Ravens in Week 4, with Dorian Thompson-Robinson under center, so this game is ultra-critical for Kevin Stefanski’s bunch to remain in the division hunt. Don’t worry too much about the Ravens’ dominance in the first meeting because of the Browns’ quarterback issues.

With Deshaun Watson starting to return to form, he’ll have his shot at the league’s second-best defense, across numerous metrics. Ironically, the Ravens are directly behind the Browns in that department. This spread is eerily identical to the look-ahead line, to boot.

Indianapolis Colts (-2) at New England Patriots (+2)

The Patriots are the home team here in name only as the game will take place in Frankfurt, Germany. New England was a -1.5 betting favorite 10 days ago but the line has shifted in favor of Indianapolis mostly due to the Patriots’ ugly showing against the Commanders a week ago.

San Francisco 49ers (-2.5) at Jacksonville Jaguars (+2.5)

Both teams are coming off their bye week. Each of them was given a chance to integrate their fresh faces in the trenches, too.

For starters, San Francisco acquired defensive end the ultra-talented Chase Young to pair with All-Pro Nick Bosa. Conversely, Jacksonville added offensive lineman, Ezra Cleveland, who will help shore up Trevor Lawrence’s pass protection.

Like the previous matchup, this spread matches the look-ahead line.

Washington Commanders (+6) at Seattle Seahawks (-6)

For the first time thus far, there has been a (small) modification to the spread. For context, Seattle was initially a 6.5-point favorite. That said, its blowout loss in Baltimore — combined with Sam Howell & Co. knocking off lowly New England — triggered the adjustment. Expect a motivational performance from the Seahawks, yet the betting market may still undervalue Howell too much.

New York Giants (+15.5) at Dallas Cowboys (-15.5)

This spread has risen 5.5 points from the look-ahead line, so it’s a steep shift on the surface. However, New York QB Daniel Jones is feared to have suffered a significant knee injury versus the Raiders, meaning that Tommy DeVito would make his first-career NFL start. Couple that notion with an angry Cowboys team after it squandered numerous opportunities in a road loss to the Eagles. Thus, bettors must be quite brave to back the Giants in this spot.

Detroit Lions (-2.5) at LA Chargers (+2.5)

The lookahead line for DET vs. LAC was Lions +1.5. Despite the Chargers posting an impressive 27-6 road win at the Jets on MNF, Dan Campbell’s Lions are now a -2.5 road favorite at most spots. Detroit has the rest advantage here as it hasn’t played since that Monday night game against the Raiders.
