NFL Weather Report For Wild Card Playoffs: Bad Conditions In Kansas City, Buffalo

Each week, the NFL weather reports loom as potential game-changers. Ignore them to your detriment, as they can help you find a winning bet or avoid losing one. Particularly with the calendar now hitting January, cold, wind, and snow could affect outdoor games in most parts of the country. NFL playoff odds for the wild card round show an even split between dome and outdoor games, but Kansas City and Buffalo will be hosting in heavy winter conditions. NFL weather looms large in both games, and the betting market has already taken notice.
Week 18 did see a couple of rainy and snowy games, respectively, go well under the totals in Baltimore and New England. Conditions in Baltimore, in particular, appeared absolutely miserable, and the offenses reflected that.
Keep in mind these forecasts are always subject to change. Monitor potentially impactful situations as the week progresses to see how forecasts evolve. Check back here on Sunday morning for updated forecasts on each of the remaining games.
Miami Dolphins At Kansas City Chiefs
Yep, that’s a minus sign in front of the projected temperature, folks. We have a real doozy of a winter weather game on our hands in Kansas City. K.C. is currently under a winter storm warning, with heavy snowfall expected early in the week. More should arrive on Friday with a 73% chance of precipitation.
As for Saturday night, the players will operate in frozen conditions, with the wind chill dropping the feel temp well below zero. That should favor the Chiefs against a warm-weather bunch that thrives on explosive plays on offense.
Under money flooded the market here, with openers as high as 47.5 immediately corrected. At DraftKings Sportsbook, the total hit a valley of 42.5 before bouncing back violently to the current 44.
NFL Weather: -2 F, 24% chance of precipitation, winds 10 to 15 mph
Pittsburgh Steelers At Buffalo Bills
If just flat-out cold is the story in Kansas City, Buffalo’s forecast leads with the wind. Winds are expected to average around 20 mph, with possible gusts around 30 mph. We could see some snow as well, and it’s worth noting the forecast offers little in the form of breaks between now and game time. Every single day between Tuesday and Sunday has a chance of precipitation greater than 55%, peaking at 96%.
And if Saturday weather instead gets pushed back to Sunday, bettors should really look out. Average winds on Saturday night are scheduled to be around 30 mph, with gusts in excess of that lofty number. Three inches of snow is scheduled to fall during that day as well.
The steam on the under in this game dwarfs even that of the Chiefs/Dolphins tilt. Openers around 43 got nuked, and the steam may not have even bottomed this number out yet. At 35.5, DraftKings Sportsbook’s number still trends downward. We’ll see how low this can go. Any further and it will approach some of the record numbers we’ve seen earlier this season.
NFL Weather: 24 F, 40% chance of precipitation, winds 15 to 25 mph
Monday Morning Update: 17 F, 12% chance of precipitation, winds 11 mph
Philadelphia Eagles At Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Even Florida will possibly not be spared the theme of weather affecting NFL wild card playoff games. Tampa Bay looks like a favorite to receive some rain on Monday night, with scattered thunderstorms in the forecast.
It doesn’t appear that the under got the frenzied action of the prior two games. Given that Florida weather systems can move unpredictably, it makes sense that sharps aren’t ready to react here just yet. Plus, the wind looks pretty tame. But keep an eye out in case heavy rains wind up hitting for the wild card finale.
NFL Weather: 58 F, 58% chance of precipitation, winds 5 to 10 mph
Monday Morning Update: 66 F, 58% chance of precipitation, winds 1 mph
