Rams vs. Lions Player Props
Rams WR Puka Nacua over receiving yards
Underdog Picks: Higher Than 76.5 Receiving Yards
Puka Nacua has been one of the most fascinating rookie receivers in recent memory, and he has a favorable matchup against a terrible Lions defense. Detroit struggles defensively because they rely on man concepts, where Puka thrives. On the season, Puka recorded the fourth-most receiving yards (460) against man coverage. His yards per reception against man coverage sits at an eye-popping 20 yards, the highest in the league for wide receivers (minimum 30 targets). Three of his best games came against defenses that rely on man concepts: Browns, Saints, and Giants. Take the Browns and Saints games with a slight grain of salt, though, as neither Denzel Ward nor Marshon Lattimore suited up in those games.
Moreover, Puka has a favorable matchup against cornerback Kindle Vildor. The Lions signed Vildor in early December and has been downright putrid in coverage over the last two weeks. He was burned by the Cowboys for 96 yards and then torched by the Vikings for 81 yards. Look for Stafford to exploit this matchup if Puka draws him in coverage Sunday night.
If you’d rather bet Puka over longest reception, I wouldn’t hate that either. If the Lions refuse to go to zone coverage, Puka should eclipse this number.
Amon-Ra St. Brown over receiving yards
Underdog Picks: Higher Than 87.5 Receiving Yards
Amon-Ra St. Brown should feast on Sunday night with the Rams defense relying on zone concepts. St. Brown tallied the second-most receiving yards (999) this year against zone defense, behind only Tyreek Hill. His best games against zone defenses were versus Baltimore, Seattle, and Tampa Bay.
Furthermore, the Lions may be without their other zone beater, Sam LaPorta. LaPorta suffered a hyperextended knee and a bone bruise in Week 18. Without him in the lineup, we should expect Jared Goff to look Brown’s way early and often.
Lastly, Brown has torched opponents at Ford Field this season, averaging 105 receiving yards per game at home. His worst game at home was against the Bears in November, when he tallied 77 receiving yards.
Josh Reynolds over receiving yards
Underdog Picks: Higher Than 28.5 Receiving Yards
When La Porta and Kalif Raymond went down in Week 18, Josh Reynolds saw an increased workload. His seven targets last week were the most he recorded in a game since Week 1 against Kansas City. If La Porta or Raymond aren’t good to go, playing Reynolds’ over makes a lot of sense since the targets have to go somewhere.
Furthermore, when LaPorta only saw the field for 23 pass plays in Week 4 against Green Bay, Josh Reynolds was the leading receiver. From a yardage perspective, Reynolds notched 69 yards in the game, his third-best game of the season. Goff also has a 119-passer rating when targeting Reynolds, the highest of any receiver on the Lions, so he trusts the veteran receiver to come through if he looks his way.
I also don’t think this number is priced correctly. When Reynolds has been targeted five or more times in a game, he’s had at least 44 receiving yards. If he reaches five targets, which I believe he will, he will easily surpass this number.
Best of luck betting SNF player props on Super Wild Card Weekend!
