The Rams offense has their hands full with a stout Lions run defense Sunday evening. Detroit allowed merely 88.8 rushing yards per contest last year, good for second in the league behind Chicago. If we operate under the assumption that they’ll have similar defensive success this season, taking Kyren Williams’ under his rush yards makes a lot of sense. The weakness of this Lions team remains through the air, not on the ground.

In the third round of the draft, Los Angeles selected Blake Corum with the No. 83 overall pick. Corum dominated the collegiate level by rushing 27 touchdowns last year, the most in CFB. This includes a six-game stretch to close out the year, where he scored 2+ touchdowns in five of the six games. Should Sean McVay use him in the same way, a bruising back who punishes would-be tacklers to reach pay dirt, striking early with Corum could be critical to beating the books and getting ahead on these Same Game Parlays.

The Rams’ new-look defense has a big test tonight with the offensive juggernaut that is the Detroit Lions offense. We know that Amon Ra St Brown is the straw that stirs the drink for this passing offense. He had a 30.2% target share last year, good for fifth highest in the league. Sam LaPorta provides plenty of intrigue, given the Rams gave up 8 TDs to tight ends last season, the second most behind the Denver Broncos. But instead of adding one of these top offensive weapons, let’s take a look at Jameson Williams.

The third-year Alabama product is the speedster and deep threat for this offense, boasting a 4.40 forty-yard dash time post-ACL surgery in 2022. He missed the beginning of last season but is poised for a bigger season now that he’s healthy. He’s also in a position to have a bigger role in the offense, with veteran receiver Josh Reynolds departing for the Denver Broncos.

Williams finished last year with an ADOT of 16.0, good for ninth-most in the league (min. 25 targets). The speed makes him a threat to pop off a big reception at any given moment, and with the highest total in Week 1, I’m willing to take a stab at him hitting 50+ yards in the home opener for one of these SGP legs. Keep in mind that Rams CB Tre’Davious White is coming off a torn Achilles from Week 4 of last season. Should Williams draw him in coverage, we could see OC Ben Johnson draw up a homerun play to test the veteran CB early on.

Since he doesn’t have a high target share in this offense, let’s go under on his receptions for the second leg of this SGP. In 15 games last year, he had two or fewer receptions in 13 of them. The target share is simply not there when St. Brown is the apple of Jared Goff’s eye. Perhaps things will be different this season, and his volume will increase, but I’m willing to bet against it, at least early on. Williams is also more of a one-trick pony with his deep play-making ability. Until he showcases his ability to have a bigger route tree in his arsenal, I’ll be looking at under his receptions.

Lastly, let’s roll with Williams to score a touchdown, which can be found as high as +250 at some sportsbooks. For Williams, it’s all about scoring on a deep ball. Two of his three receiving touchdowns a year ago were on 30+ yard receptions. If he’s going to score, it’s likely going to be on a deep shot. We can take out two legs within this SGP in one deep ball.
