Goff’s Interception Struggles
Interceptions were a big issue with Jared Goff during his team with the Rams. He fired at least 12 picks in each of his last three seasons there, which may have played a big role in his ultimate dismissal via trade.
Whether it be the work of offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, playing behind a superior offensive line, Goff’s own improvement, or (more likely) some combination thereof, Goff has significantly cleaned that up since landing in Motown. There, he’s thrown a total of 27 interceptions across 48 starts from 2021-23.
Unfortunately, that weakness has cropped back up in the early going of 2024. Goff has four interceptions against just three touchdowns.
Ripping accurate throws has never been the issue with Goff. Rather, he sometimes struggles to read defenses, and few, if any, coordinators do better work disguising their looks than Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald. He’s known for his simulated pressures and confusing looks.
Facing Mike Macdonald’s devious schemes, Goff may find himself in danger of more errors.
Seattle’s Soft Schedule
The Seahawks are off to a fantastic 3-0 start, one of just five teams that can say that. However, of those five teams, they have almost certainly faced the easiest schedule. It would be difficult to find an easier path than Broncos, Patriots, and the Skylar Thompson-led Dolphins. Those teams landed 26th, 32nd, and 29th in TheLines’ NFL power rankings this week.
Thus, we may be looking at a mirage here. The Seahawks certainly have the ingredients to be a solid team. In fact, many, including myself, touted them as a sleeper heading into this season.
However, it’s difficult to fully buy in given the cupcake path they have enjoyed to this point.
Furthermore, the Seahawks are dealing with a litany of injuries on the defensive side. Four key defensive pieces may be out: EDGE Uchenna Nwosu, LB Jerome Baker, and DLs Leonard Williams and Byron Murphy II.
Facing a powerful Lions offense, if the backups can’t get up to speed quickly, we could see the Lions run away with this one.

Predictions For NFL SGP Picks
I feel like it’s more likely than not Goff will give the ball away here, but the market is pricing it the other way, so I see some value there.
However, the Seahawks also look like a potential paper tiger that could be due for a big fall back to earth. Even if they garner a turnover from Goff, I’m concerned these teams might be on different levels. The Lions may reassert themselves, reminding everyone why they were considered a Super Bowl contender. They have big edges on both lines of scrimmage, and they are the sort of team that can cover a big spread if things are going well because of their offense.
I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility that they could cover some alternate spreads while going minus in the turnover department.
