(Early) QB Duel?
As noted, Williams will start under center after being held out of the Hall of Fame Game — cut short because of severe weather. Bears coach Matt Eberflus mentioned that Williams and the starters will play a “range of snaps” but didn’t clarify whether Williams will see a full quarter of work.
Williams is the consensus favorite among odds for Offensive Rookie of the Year. His best odds in this market are .
Backup QBs Tyson Bagent and Brett Rypien will take over after Williams exits. Both signal-callers have regular-season experience, and Rypien helped Chicago bettors cash in against Houston, completing 11-of-15 passes for 166 yards and three scores. Up against Buffalo’s second- or third-string defense, the total reaching as high as 39 at Fanatics Sportsbook isn’t surprising.
Conversely, Bills coach Sean McDermott said the offense will play “a quarter, give or take.” MVP candidate Josh Allen (), rookie Keon Coleman, and new wide receivers Curtis Samuel and Marquez Valdes-Scantling will all factor into NFL betting odds over the first 12 minutes.
Once Allen departs, former Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky and Shane Buechele will nab reps.

Will Daniels Shine?
Many reports have raved about Daniels’ accuracy in training camp. Since the Jets haven’t employed their starting defense much in recent preseasons, he may face a slew of backups. However, their depth held strong against former No. 1 pick Bryce Young in last year’s contest, limiting Young to one first down via three possessions.
Moreover, Washington is searching for wide receiver depth. Daniels could see more work with rookie Luke McCaffrey and veteran Olamide Zaccheaus instead of Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson.
Daniels has the third-best odds to win Offensive Rookie of the Year, priced at , behind Williams and Cardinals wideout Marvin Harrison Jr.
After missing the joint practice against the Commanders, Aaron Rodgers, whose healed Achilles tendon allowed him to participate fully in training camp, won’t face Washington. Jets coach Robert Saleh said they’ve discussed whether the two-time league MVP will play against the Giants in the NFL preseason finale. Nothing has been determined as of this publication.
The 35-year-old journeyman Tyrod Taylor will carry a clipboard alongside Rodgers as New York errs on the side of caution. With fellow QB Jordan Travis banged up, UFL MVP Adrian Martinez and undrafted rookie Andrew Peasley will likely split the reps.
Given the circumstances, the under in the first half would normally intrigue me. Nevertheless, it’s set at 16.5 (+105) at Caesars Sportsbook, falling below a key number.
