Game-By-Game Breakdowns: Vikings’ Rebound?
The first of three games in London will be played in Week 4 between the Vikings and Saints. Both teams missed the playoffs last season, but Minnesota certainly improved its secondary with its first two selections of the 2022 NFL Draft via safety Lewis Cine (Georgia) and cornerback Andrew Booth (Clemson).
Offense wasn’t the major issue for then-coach Mike Zimmer a season ago, as Minnesota allowed the league’s eighth-most yards per pass attempt (6.9 YPA). Kevin O’Connell, the Rams’ offensive coordinator-turned-Vikings head coach, will run the other side of the ball with Kirk Cousins & Co.
Meanwhile, New Orleans upgraded its receiving core with the No. 11 overall pick in Ohio State product Chris Olave, but Dennis Allen’s bunch failed to address its quarterback need. So barring an injury, Jameis Winston will head the offense again.
Quarterbacks Under The Microscope
Next up, the Packers and Giants square off in Week 5. Aaron Rodgers is coming off consecutive MVP campaigns, but he’ll forge on without wide receiver Davante Adams, dealt to Las Vegas on March 28.
Rodgers’ counterpart Daniel Jones will aim to be in tune with Brian Daboll, who comes over as New York’s head coach after serving as the offensive coordinator for Buffalo, Cleveland, Miami, Kansas City and even Alabama at the collegiate level.
The finale in the Big Smoke is between the Broncos and Jaguars. Denver will be in the midst of its first season with Russell Wilson under center, and the betting market is relatively high on its Super Bowl aspirations (+1600). On the flip side, Doug Pederson will look to help signal caller Trevor Lawrence take the next step after an up-and-down (mostly down) rookie season.
NFL Odds Make First Imprint In Germany
In a shocking development, the league has positioned itself for more bang for its buck after Tom Brady abruptly unretired, as this contest will represent the NFL’s first-ever game in Germany. Considering the Seahawks are trotting out the turnover-prone Drew Lock and a depleted defense, the Buccaneers may wind up closing as an even bigger favorite.
NFC West Rivalry Renewed
After sweeping the 49ers in the 2021-22 campaign, the Cardinals improved their wide receiver room with the addition of Marquise “Hollywood” Brown. This news came before the league suspended DeAndre Hopkins for violating the PED policy, but he’ll be in the lineup by then — even if his appeal doesn’t work out in his favor.
Moreover, San Francisco’s offense could be suitable once again with reports surfacing that star wideout Deebo Samuel may not request a trade of his own after all.
