MVP ODDS AND PRIMETIME/STANDALONE GAMES CORRELATED
When it comes to awards, including NFL MVP, primetime and standalone games carry more weight than others. Voters of these awards watch these games without any distractions, and recency bias is alive and well. Four of the last six MVP winners have had two primetime or standalone games in the final four weeks of the regular season.
Below is the list of the last four MVP winners along with their standalone games over the final four weeks.
Year | Player | Primetime/Standalone Game 1 | Primetime/Standalone Game 2 |
2023 | Lamar Jackson | Week 15 SNF @ Jacksonville (23-7) | Week 16 MNF @ San Francisco (33-19) |
2022 | Patrick Mahomes | Saturday Week 16 standalone vs. Seattle (24-10) | Saturday Week 18 standalone vs. LV (31-13) |
2021 | Aaron Rodgers | Saturday Week 15 standalone vs Cleveland (24-22) | Week 17 SNF vs Minnesota (37-10) |
2020 | Aaron Rodgers | Saturday Week 15 standalone vs. Carolina (24-16) | Week 16 SNF vs. Tennessee (40-14) |
NFL QBS WITH THREE PRIMETIME or standalone GAMES WEEKS 15-18
While there are no QBs with three primetime or standalone games in the last four weeks, Jordan Love may find himself playing Chicago in a standalone game in Week 18.
NFL QBS WITH TWO PRIMETIME or standalone GAMES WEEKS 15-18
- Caleb Williams (Week 15 MNF at Minnesota, Week 17 TNF vs. Seattle)
- Russel Wilson (Week 16 Saturday at Baltimore & Week 17 vs. KC)
- Geno Smith (Week 15 SNF at GB & Wek 17 TNF at Chicago)
- Jordan Love (Week 15 SNF at Seattle, Week 16 MNF vs. New Orleans)
- Brock Purdy (Week 15 TNF at LAR, Week 17 MNF vs. Detroit)
- Deshaun Watson (Week 16 TNF at Cincinnati & Week 17 SNF vs. Miami)
- Lamar Jackson (Week 16 Saturday at Pittsburgh & Week 17 Christmas Day at Houston)
- Patrick Mahomes (Week 16 Saturday vs. Houston & Week 17 Christmas Day at Pittsburgh)
- C.J. Stroud (Week 16 Saturday vs KC & Week 17 Christmas Day vs. Baltimore)
The Green Bay quarterback presents an intriguing candidate to win MVP. He plays two primetime games in the final four weeks, Thanksgiving in Week 13, and Thursday Night Football in Week 14. From Week 9-18 last season, Love was second in EPA, trailing only Dak Prescott of the Cowboys. Love also finished second in touchdown passes (32) last year behind Prescott (36).
NFL QBS WITH ONE PRIMETIME or standalone GAMES WEEK 15-18
- Jared Goff (Week 17 MNF at San Francisco)
- Kirk Cousins (Week 15 MNF at Las Vegas)
- Derek Carr (Week 16 MNF at GB)
- Matthew Stafford (Week 15 at San Francisco)
- Baker Mayfield (Week 16 SNF at Dallas)
- J.J. McCarthy (Week 15 MNF at Chicago)
- Dak Prescott (Week 16 vs. Tampa Bay)
- Aidan O’Connell/Gardner Minshew (Week 15 MNF vs. Falcons)
- Joe Burrow (Week 16 TNF vs. Cleveland)
- Tua Tagovailoa (Week 17 SNF at Cleveland)
Jared Goff presents an intriguing longshot candidate to win MVP. Perhaps their Week 17 game at San Fran will decide the No. 1 seed in the NFC. Goff also plays only two games outdoors in November and December, where he has notably struggled throughout his career. If the Lions are sitting atop the NFC at season’s end, it’s possible that the AFC’s No. 1 seed will get more recognition in this market.
The schedule breaks nicely to open the gate for Joe Burrow and the Bengals. They play the Patriots, Chiefs, Commanders, and Panthers to open the season. He only has one primetime game in the final four weeks; however, their Week 17 and 18 games have start times to be determined.
NFL QBS WITH ZERO PRIMETIME or standalone GAMES WEEK 15-18
- Justin Herbert
- Will Levis
- Trevor Lawrence
- Bo Nix
- Anthony Richardson
- Daniel Jones
- Kyler Murray
- Bryce Young
- Jalen Hurts
- Jaden Daniels
- Aaron Rodgers
- Drake Maye
- Josh Allen
2024 NFL FLEX SCHEDULING PROCEDURES
The below list is the flexible scheduling procedure for the 2024 NFL season.
- For Sunday Night Football, flexing can be used twice between Weeks 5-10, and at the NFL’s discretion during Weeks 11-17.
- For Monday Night Football, it is up to the NFL’s discretion in Weeks 12-17.
- For Thursday Night Football, it can be used twice between Weeks 13-17.
- Only Sunday afternoon games (or games listed as TBD) can be moved to SNF, MNF, or TNF.
The scheduling for Week 18’s Saturday, Sunday afternoon, and Sunday night games has not been assigned. It will be announced at the conclusion of Week 17.
FINAL THOUGHTS ON NFL MVP ODDS
In the last six years, only one MVP winner has lost primetime games in the final four weeks of the regular season: Mahomes in 2018. The Chiefs still secured the No. 1 seed in the AFC, which is a staple of winning the award. Rather than playing a quarterback to win MVP from the AFC, playing a quarterback who can topple the 49ers and secure the No. 1 seed in the NFC makes a lot of sense. Jalen Hurts lacks the standalone games at season’s end, but the primetime games for Love and the Packers are plentiful.
Best of luck betting on NFL MVP Odds!
