Browns Steelers SGP Props Strategy
There are two keys to giving yourself a chance at long term profitability in SGP and prop betting. The first is getting value on your bets. TheLines’ free prop tool searches every legal sportsbook to make sure you get the best prices on all your bets.
The other key is correlation. If you’re betting props and especially Same Game Parlays, you should always correlate your bets well. If your overall sense of the game is correct, it makes cashing multiple bets or multiple legs much easier.
In this case, whether Pittsburgh is going to be able to bounce back from Week 1’s shellacking is crucial. The Steelers were 28th in Offensive EPA and 26th defensively, numbers that just cannot be good enough this week. Fortunately, they’re playing a step down in competition in the Browns.
Given the Steelers were Top 12 in Defensive EPA last year when TJ Watt played, it’s likely at the least that the Steelers Defense will regress positively this week. And that’s where the props can start.
Browns Steelers SGP Props
Deshaun Watson Under Passing Yards: O/U /
Even in a winning effort, Watson was only good for 154 yards and 20th in the league by Dropback EPA. If the Steelers defense does play better, as is likely, then the Browns will need a meaningful performance out of Watson, which he’s still yet to show he can deliver since coming back from nearly two years off.
If the Browns get a lead, they’ll instantly load up Nick Chubb with yards, so this isn’t solely reliant on the Steelers stepping up. That said, until Watson proves he’s anything more than a decrepit shell of the QB he was in his Texans days, unders have to be the order of the day.
Kenny Pickett Under 0.5 Interceptions: O/U /
Pickett was atrocious against San Francisco last week. 29th by Dropback EPA, Pickett threw 2 Interceptions and got lucky it stayed at 2. The thing is, against the Browns, the game is unlikely to get out of hand quite so fast. And that’s really important for Pickett.
Pickett throws interceptions when he is trying to make plays where there aren’t any. The reason he threw so many bad balls against the Niners was because of a lethal pass rush and the fact San Fran were moving the ball with ease. If the Steelers Defense can slow down the Browns, Pickett won’t be needed to make plays out of nothing, and his ball security will improve dramatically.
Nick Chubb Over Receptions: O/U /
If the Steelers are more competitive in this game, Chubb’s path to the 18 carries and 106 yards he got last week will be limited. But what likely won’t be is his work through the air. He caught 4 balls on 4 targets from Watson in a game script where the Browns rarely needed to throw in the second half. Make this game more competitive, and Chubb will eat up targets.
Without Kareem Hunt in his backfield to limit his passing work and with Watson still not showing signs of improving back to his old self, Chubb seems likely to find himself getting a lot of short passes in Week 2.
George Pickens Over Receptions: O/U /
Pickens threw some shade after Week 1, and was just. He only got 37 yards on his 5 catches, limited in large part by a bad offensive scheme and little time to pass. If the Steelers can get Pickett a bit more time to throw, Pickens should be the beneficiary.
Denzel Ward in coverage is a minor concern, but that’s why this is a receptions bet. Like Stefon Diggs against Sauce Gardner in Week 1, teams can manipulate how and where they get their stars the ball to avoid star corners. In this case, more slot routes and inside routes will give Pickens an ability to get free.
If the Steelers are going to be competitive Pickett is going to have to get Pickens the ball, and a lot. Over Receptions makes a ton of sense for the Steelers’ No. 1, especially with questions around the injury statuses of Dionte Johnson and Pat Freiermuth.
Best of luck betting on Browns – Steelers props!
