Will San Francisco 49ers Rebound?

Among these "big game" odds, I'm most intrigued by San Francisco. Per the table above, its best odds are [tallysight-widget type="odds-text" id="67abdd1c18ad13c150b171a5"] at FanDuel Sportsbook.

Although Kyle Shanahan's 49ers finished 6-11 last season, they managed to rank second in the league in net yards per play (YPP), grading only behind the Ravens. They also accrued at least 12 wins in four of the five previous years. Those four teams made the postseason, each winning at least two playoff matchups, and two advanced to the Super Bowl.

Entering 2025, there's (potential) positive regression on deck. Injuries decimated San Francisco last year, as the dual-threat Christian McCaffrey began the season on extended IR and was a shell of himself in only four contests. Brandon Aiyuk held out in training camp before missing 10 games due to a torn ACL. Meanwhile, stud left tackle Trent Williams missed seven games, and George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, and Brock Purdy combined to miss their fair share of matchups.

Moreover, the 49ers went 2-6 in one-score games and finished 27th in turnover differential. For those who've read my columns before, you know the drill. These variables usually reverse course.

There are holes defensively, but San Francisco boasts the ninth-most available salary cap space ($50.3 million) and the 11th pick in the 2025 NFL draft. Reuniting with Robert Saleh, who could mirror Steve Spagnuolo (Chiefs) and Vic Fangio (Eagles) as coordinators-turned-head coaches who returned to their old position and found success, is a heavily underlooked storyline.

There have been (many) worse Super Bowl bets already made in mid-February. The 49ers are worth considering at these odds, especially given their last-place schedule. Good luck with your Super Bowl bets!
