Eagles WR A.J. Brown ()
A.J. Brown entered the season as the consensus WR1 in this high-powered Philadelphia offense. Through two weeks, that status has been called into question. Brown has just 108 yards and zero touchdowns through the first two weeks of the season while rising star DeVonta Smith has impressed with 178 yards and two touchdowns of his own.
Over the course of the season, those splits should correct themselves with some positive regression due for Brown. And if that doesn’t happen naturally, it comes from Brown himself demanding more attention on the field. In last week’s Thursday Night Football matchup, Brown was seen confronting Jalen Hurts on the sidelines, voicing his frustration to be featured in the offense more. For team chemistry’s sake, it’s conceivable to expect Hurts to force a few extra targets on Brown’s way once inside the red zone.
Hurts did try a deep endzone shot to Brown after that sideline conversation that fell incomplete.
The Buccaneers have struggled against WR1s to start the season, surrendering more than 100 yards to Justin Jefferson and D.J. Moore over the first two weeks. This should be another winnable matchup for Brown and a nice buy-low spot odds-wise for him to pick up his first touchdown of the season.
Buccaneers TE Cade Otton ()
It’s hard to poke many holes in the Eagles’ roster on either side of the ball, but if there’s one Achilles Heel, it would have to be their ability to cover tight ends inside the red zone. That was an area of focus at the end of the 2022 season, and they have still struggled to find answers in that department through the first two weeks of 2023.
The Eagles have yet to allow a rushing touchdown this season, but 43% of their touchdowns allowed have come from TEs. Philadelphia surrendered one touchdown to Patriots TE Hunter Henry in Week 1 and two touchdowns to Vikings Tight End T.J. Hockenson in Week 2.
Otton is an easier assignment than Hockenson for Philadelphia’s defense and is still chasing his first touchdown of the 2023 season. But he’s still a viable piece of this offense, third in target share behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. At these longer odds, this prop is worth a flyer if this trend continues.
