Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets are no longer merely making eyes at each other from across the room. They had an official date, with the two sides meeting in Rodgers’ home state of California according to ESPN reports. As a potential deal draws closer, New York Jets odds shortened considerably across the market on Tuesday.
With the Packers giving Rodgers permission to seek greener pastures, it sounds like the longtime partnership between team and franchise legend has all but ended. In turn, Packers odds have lengthened slightly.
Let’s take a look and see where the numbers settled.
Jets Odds Shrink With Rodgers Acquisition Potentially Imminent
The appeal of this pairing is obvious. The Jets have an extremely talented young team. Somehow, they managed to land the Rookies of the Year in both offense and defense in Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner, respectively.
The defense in particular had a strong season. They ranked sixth in EPA/play allowed and turned in strong performances against great QBs, stymying the likes of Josh Allen twice and Rodgers himself.
The offense did not hold up its end, however. Mike White tried his best but couldn’t keep it together physically behind a weak offensive line. Zach Wilson flamed out in spectacular fashion.
Despite averaging 17.5 points per game allowed over their final eight games, the Jets somehow lost seven of those. They produced a truly staggering level of ineptitude on offense.
Rodgers did not have a great season. He followed two MVP campaigns with one in which his stats cratered across the board. But, he might become revitalized with new surroundings, and most importantly, a better WR corps. Losing Davante Adams proved detrimental to Rodgers’ production.
Several sportsbooks had Jets numbers around +3000 still when reports of the meetings first surfaced on Tuesday. By the time of writing, only DraftKings Sportsbook has a number above +2000, with the consensus around +1800.

Market Tepid On Green Bay’s Chances With Jordan Love
As for the other side of the broken marriage, the Packers appear set to roll with young gun Jordan Love at QB. It’s been an awkward few years for Love, drafted in the first round out of Utah State in 2020. Rodgers was understandably peeved at the prospect of his replacement’s arrival.
On the field, things didn’t develop swimmingly either. Love couldn’t unseat unexciting veteran Tim Boyle for the backup job as a rook. He then fell on his face in limited usage in his debut 2021 season. When Rodgers missed a game with COVID-19, Love led the team to just seven points in admittedly poor conditions against a mediocre Chiefs defense.
Finally, Love showed signs of life in emergency relief duty after Rodgers got hurt against eventual Super Bowl runners-up the Eagles. He played the entire fourth quarter and led the team to 14 points on the road in a comeback attempt that fell short when the defense couldn’t muster a stop.
Green Bay still has a roster with plenty of talent. Up-and-coming WRs Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs showed a lot to build on in their rookie seasons. The team has spent of tons of resources on the defense, which got trucked on the ground this year but still has young pieces everywhere. If indeed the team turns the reins over to Love, he isn’t stepping into a terrible situation.
However, the market has given a slight thumbs down to Green Bay’s offseason so far. After opening at +3000, the Packers have slid to +3500 at most shops.
Assuming Rodgers does link up with the Jets, these teams’ respective odds only figure to continue moving in these directions. Now may be one of the last times to pick off the slower-moving numbers if you want to get the Jets. And if you want to buy low on Green Bay, keep an eye out and see where the market settles.
