New York Yankees Odds: Bats Powering Extreme Early Offense?
Torpedo bats. That's the current buzzword in baseball circles after the Yankees' blazing start to the MLB season. What are torpedo bats, and how have the Yankees used the new bats to tattoo opposing pitching in 2025?
Let's examine how they've affected MLB odds thus far.

Numbers Behind Yankees' New Torpedo Bats
Is 36 runs in three games good? That's what the Yankees have done thus far, swinging the new torpedo bats.
What is a torpedo bat? It's a bat with more mass concentrated in the "barrel," where the hitter hopes to strike the ball. Theoretically, it offers a greater chance of a squared-up hit and less chance of a swing and a miss.
Now, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, teams other than the Yankees have access to the bats. Some reports say they've already been around for a few years.
And not all of the Yankees are using them. Aaron Judge has done more damage than anyone thus far. He's slugging 1.818 and has four homers in three games. He's just swinging his regular old stick, which has helped him collect multiple MVPs.
Still, let's look at the numbers for the Yankees and the overs through three games:

Blanket betting the Yankees and the over would be 5-1 for +3.9 units. Betting the run line would have done even better.
The Yankees have had the best offense in MLB by a considerable margin, needless to say. Their 239 wRC+ is farther ahead of the No. 2 team (Arizona) than the No. 2 team is from a below-average offense.
Will Yankees Continue To Yield Profit Thanks To New Bats?
Three games is a meaningless sample size. There's no question the Yankees will come back to earth. The best offense in MLB is typically about 25% better than average, nowhere near 139%.
The market will adjust quickly if the new Yankees bats provide an edge. A glance at Tuesday's odds against the Diamondbacks shows a pretty standard moneyline and over/under, so nothing seems to be moving the needle.
