Who Is The Saints Starting Quarterback On Thursday Night Football?
Head coach Dennis Allen said on Wednesday that the starting quarterback for Thursday night’s game would be a game-time decision. However, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Thursday morning that signs are pointing towards Dalton making a fourth-consecutive start. ESPN’s Ed Werder reported this afternoon Dalton will start with Winston active but the third-string, emergency QB.
Dalton (back) was a limited participant in practice on Monday and Tuesday before being upgraded to full participant on Wednesday. Winston has been limited all week with back and ankle injuries.
Andy Dalton told reporters on Wednesday that he “feels good”. He expressed the challenge of a short week by stating ” we have to do everything in a couple days rather than having a full week to get it done.”
Dalton has done well filling in for the injured Jameis Winston in three games. The veteran quarterback has completed 53 of 84 passes for 585 yards and three touchdowns. During this three-game stretch Dalton has a 90.6 quarterback rating. The Saints are 1-2 against the spread in Dalton’s three games as starter.
If Dalton gets hurt during the game or is unable to go in the game, the Saints could turn towards Taysom Hill if Jameis is inactive. The offense would presumably change drastically if Hill is called upon. Hill has 26 carries on the season for 267 yards, good for 10.3 yards per carry. Hill has thrown a total of five passes this season so far.
