Nelly Korda Odds: USA Women’s Golf Star Defends Olympic Gold Medal
Nelly Korda’s quest to defend her Olympic gold medal is one of the most interesting storylines this week for those handicapping women’s Olympic golf odds. With her starting this year on an incredible run of form, including winning five straight tournaments, Korda is rightly the favorite. That said, she’s also been kind of a disaster in recent months, missing the cut badly at both the Women’s U.S. Open and Women’s PGA Championship. With seven wins and yet oh so much intrigue around, Nelly Korda odds movement will be fun to watch this week.

Korda’s Early-Season Success
Korda has won six times this season, including a five-event run over nearly three months where she won every start. A T7 at the Cognizant Founders Cup came before she won her 6th event. She managed to win the LPGA’s Match Play event, as well as the Chevron, the first major of the season. Going back to the Tournament of Champions, Korda’s worst performance up until her last win, she had made seven top 10s and eight top 20s in eight events.
Her run of hot form was, in some ways, unexpected. Outside of one Aramco Series win in each of 2022 and 2023, Korda only won 1 LPGA event in those two years. That said, this kind of elite form isn’t a shock – Korda won four times on the LPGA Tour in 2021, including the Women’s PGA Championship. The hot run of form that Korda experienced in 2021 returned even stronger than the previous time. Korda also won Olympic Gold that year for a fifth total victory.
Her dominance made, and in early May, it seemed like her repeating as Olympic champion would be an uncontroversial belief. And then the bulk of the LPGA’s Major season kicked off.
Korda Collapse?
At the Women’s US Open, Korda came out of the gates and shot a 10-over-par 80 on Thursday. She grinded out a Friday 70, but she missed the cut comfortably. At her next start two weeks later, Korda missed the cut after more Thursday struggles. The next week, at the Women’s PGA Championship, she seemed to fix her Thursday woes with a 3-under 69 … before a Friday 81 made her miss the cut.
She eventually made the cut at the Evian, where a Sunday 68 gave her a T26 finish. It’s still mightily concerning that her four worst results of the season have been her last four starts. That the Majors have been as bad as they are doesn’t suggest that she can step up on the biggest stage right now, though she did win the Chevron in April. That said, she has had a history of stepping up in big moments before.
Sister Solheim
In 2019, one of Korda’s big breakout moments was the Solheim Cup. At a European Solheim Cup, Korda won 3.5 points out of an available 4, helping keep the Americans in the hunt. The Americans did narrowly lose the Cup, but Korda’s victory in singles and 2.5 points from 3 paired sessions kept them in it till the very end. Since then, she’s taken 4 points from 8 at the Solheim Cup, including a two-point performance in Europe in 2023 when her game wasn’t in amazing form.
Paired with the Gold Medal in Tokyo, Korda does seem to perform well when representing the US. That said, the question is whether the form is good enough to win.
Nelly Korda Predictions For The Olympics
Korda is very clearly not playing good golf. Whether it’s mental lapses or some nagging injury or whatever, she is not playing good golf. That is fairly undeniable. What is also undeniable is that she’s still clearly the most talented golfer in the field. It would be neither outrageous nor that shocking even for her to come out and stomp the field.
She won in 2021 in Tokyo, she’s won a Major this year, and when representing her country, she’s taken 7.5 out of a possible 12 points in Solheim Cups, including getting 3.5 from 4 in Europe in 2019. She can elevate her game when it matters. That is a skill, as is being able to perform well in Europe. All of that said, I’m not sure how great a fit she is for Le Club National.
Narrow fairways and lots of water make accuracy a premium here. Korda has shot two rounds of 80+ in her last four starts and an additional 76. Her ability to make big numbers right now is big. Over the full season, including the 6 wins in 7 starts, she’s 41st on Tour in Driving Accuracy. Last year, that number was 63rd. If she can’t control the driver, she’s going to eject herself from this tournament.
It feels like either Korda finds her springtime form and laps the field, or she’s out of the tournament by the turn on Thursday. It might be an oversimplification, but that’s how her whole season has been. I’m expecting the latter. Best of luck navigating Nelly Korda Olympic odds.
