The Northeast Conference men’s basketball tournament tips off on Wednesday, and one of eight participants will earn a ticket to the dance. We’ll take a look at all of the pertinent 2023 NEC Tournament odds (courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook), schedule, and how you can watch. It all begins on March 1, with Merrimack — the favorite to win the tournament — up against 3-25 LIU.

As previously stated, Merrimack is priced as a -110 favorite to win the conference tournament, which is equivalent to a 52.38% implied probability. The Warriors finished the regular season on an eight-game winning streak. Bryant, which now resides in the America East, was NEC’s representative in the 2021-22 NCAA Tournament.
Nevertheless, Joe Gallo’s bunch isn’t eligible to receive a spot in March Madness — even if it winds up cashing those odds. In fact, Merrimack won’t be eligible for March Madness (nor the NIT) until the 2023-24 campaign. That’s a product of the NCAA’s policy on reclassifying programs. Hence, the runner-up will earn the automatic bid. Good riddance, Mark Emmert.
Outside of the 6-foot-8 Jordan Miner, who tallies 17.4 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, the Warriors offense is borderline putrid. That’s not an exaggeration, as they showcase the second-worst adjusted offensive efficiency nationally (per KenPom). They’re carried by their top-100 defensive rating, forcing the No. 1 turnover percentage across D-I.
Considering no NEC program ranks better than No. 315 from a metric perspective, I wouldn’t wager against Merrimack. But given the variance that conference tournaments can provide, it may be best staying away entirely.
