Nebraska residents will soon have a local sports betting market. The Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission approved betting rules unanimously and would see Nebraska sports betting available at local racetrack casinos.

WarHorse Casino First Sports Betting Location In Nebraska

WarHorse Casino in Lincoln will be the first location to host odds. The operator opened its doors earlier this fall.

Nebraska passed sports betting legislation two years ago but has not created regulations in all this time. Now with the rules approved, residents can expect to see sports betting options at WarHorse Casino in short order.

“We are really excited to see the sports betting regulations pass out of the gaming commission yesterday,” said Pete Graziano, director of marketing for WarHorse Casino. “It’s a great milestone to give the voters in the state what they asked for, which is casino gambling in Nebraska, including sports betting.”

The rules will see sports betting available on casino grounds only. Regulations also prohibit sporting events being played within the state. This is focused on local collegiate organizations to avoid unethical practices with college athletes. Therefore, no betting on in state college football games.

The WarHorse sportsbook is only a temporary location but will serve as the beginning of the betting market in Nebraska. Sports betting is projected to be live within the next two to three months. The rules need final approvals from Gov. Pete Ricketts and Attorney General Doug Petersen before betting can go live.

“It’s still our phase one building right, so it’s a small casino that we wanted to get live and bring online, but in the meantime, we’ll find ways to broaden the gaming offering when we can,” continued Graziano.

Will More Sportsbooks Come To Nebraska?

There will be more sports betting operators to follow WarHorse Casino. The casino was the first to be built in the Cornhusker State and will be followed by more. Nebraska’s gaming market is still in its infancy.

The rules will also motivate other cities to push for casinos to be built. Sports betting revenue in the Lincoln area will likely boom the local economy. It is an exciting time for locals as Nebraska is entering the sports betting world.
