NCAAB Michigan vs Illinois: Predictions, How To Watch and Best Bets
If Illinois could figure out overtime, this would be a completely different situation. The Fighting Illini have lost four times in the Big Ten, three of them coming in overtime. And because of that, they’ve only got the slightest chance to win the Big Ten title from Michigan.
The Wolverines would seal the league crown with a win here, or in any of their remaining games. So Illinois’ chances to win the Big Ten are pretty bleak, but the Illini have more on their minds. They want to dislodge the Wolverines from the top seed in the Midwest, because they want to get assigned to Chicago for the NCAA tournament.
That only happens if Illinois can beat Michigan here and again in Chicago in the Big Ten tournament. So the pressure is on for Brad Underwood’s team, and that’s often when the Illini have been at their best.
Here’s a look at this Big Ten matchup.

Michigan vs. Illinois Prediction
Best Bet: Over 157.5 (FanDuel, -110)
Michigan has played very well on defense, but the Wolverines have not shown the same prowess away from Ann Arbor. Only Ohio State failed to break 70 at home against the Wolverines, which has led to Michigan changing up how it plays on the road.
The Wolverines like to run anyway, and when they’re on the road, they look to take the crowd out of the game by putting up a lot of points early. They’ve only failed to break 80 points once on the road, and Illinois’ defense doesn’t exactly inspire confidence that it can change that.
The Illini are the worst in the nation at preventing shots, and the Wolverines shoot the ball really well. With Illinois not likely to force many turnovers, this looks like a really high-scoring game. Four of Illinois’ past five games have gone over 160, so this is very much in play.
Michigan vs. Illinois Same Game Parlay
- Michigan -1.5
- Over 157.5
- Yaxel Lendeborg Over 13.5 Points
Given Michigan’s recent performance on the road against Purdue, it doesn’t seem like anything will faze the Wolverines. Illinois’ defense isn’t going to be able to slow down Lendeborg, who’s coming off a tough night against Minnesota.
Bet & Get up to $1,000 in Bonus Bets! The Wolverines didn’t need Lendeborg to beat the Golden Gophers, but they will need him here. And prior to that game, Lendeborg scored 21 points against Duke’s defense. The Blue Devils offer a much tougher defensive challenge than the Illini, and Lendeborg should find his shots on Friday.
With neither side likely to create turnovers, both teams should be able to score consistently, resulting in a back-and-forth affair.
