With the NBA preseason a little more than a month away, this is the time of year where fans start mulling over what could happen in free agency going forward. All the rage this past summer, as it was on multiple occasions in previous years, was where LeBron James would suit up for the 2026-27 season. As we know, that ended up being the City of Brotherly Love as he’ll be with the 76ers next year,

Perhaps one of the biggest things being bandied about right now is the potential next team for future Hall of Famer Steph Curry. While it’s something that is kicked around on the prediction markets right now, it remains a fluid situation. Meanwhile, the current odds for Stephen Curry’s next team are courtesy of Kalshi and were current as of 1 am on Tuesday, August 25.

The Favorite

Conventional wisdom has this as a one-horse race for Curry’s next team. Most people project that he’ll be a Warrior for life and retire wearing the uniform. After all, he has logged 1,069 regular season games, 155 postseason contests and four championships to his credit. In addition, he has a NBA Finals MVP, which he won in 2022. He averages 24.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 6.3 assists per contest in his career. Curry owns league records for the most three-pointers made (4,248) and attempted (10,073) entering this season. Meanwhile, he also is the top free throw shooter in league history, converting 91.2% of his attempts.

After 17 years playing for the Warriors, it’s hard to envision him playing anywhere else at any point of his career. With that said, though, we did see guys like Karl Malone finish their careers elsewhere, which was unexpected at the time.

The Dark Horses

Charlotte is often a rumored destination for Curry should he end up going elsewhere. He played his college basketball at Davidson, which is a stone’s throw (22 miles) from Charlotte. In addition, his father, Dell Curry, played for the Hornets from 1988-89 through 1997-98. That gives a familial connection to the franchise. Still, with Curry’s advanced age (38, 39 in mid-March 2027), it’s hard to see Charlotte parting with the kind of potential capital involved to make a deal. That is doubly clear given the fact that he comes off a season where he played just 43 games.

Boston has a void in the shooting department after dealing Jaylen Brown to the 76ers in a deal this summer. The return for the Celtics was underwhelming as they received 36-year-old Paul George. George played just 37 games a year ago, missing time with injuries and a suspension for PED use. In addition, that marked the sixth time in seven years where he didn’t crack the 60-game mark. Curry would provide scoring and facilitate the offense. Still, it’s hard to see the Celtics parting with Payton Pritchard or someone of that caliber in a deal going back to the Warriors.

Miami needs shooters to surround Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo. The problem for the Heat is that they dealt away a slew of roster depth in the deal to land Antetokounmpo from the Bucks. That saw Miami part with Tyler Herro and Jaime Jaquez Jr., among others. The Heat lacks trade chips after that deal, however, as they moved multiple first-round picks in the deal. With that said, Miami is unlikely to have the pieces to make a move.

The Consensus

At this stage of his career, it’s highly unlikely that Curry is going to end up anywhere than Golden State. He is in the final year of his deal, which is worth $62.6 million. There’s also the 15% trade kicker if he is dealt, which makes it more prohibitive. At 38, even though he is still an elite shooter, it’s hard to see a team making a move. He’d garner interest in free agency in 2027 should he reach that point but I’d still expect him with the Warriors.
