It’s the continuation of a first-round Western Conference series as the second-seeded San Antonio Spurs make the trip to clash with the seventh-seeded Portland Trail Blazers in Game 3 Friday night and we have things covered with our Spurs vs. Trail Blazers prediction. San Antonio took Game 1, 111-98, at home Sunday to draw first blood in the set. They covered the line as a 12.5-point favorite in that contest. Portland responded with a 106-103 road win in Game 2 Tuesday night. The Trail Blazers won outright as a 10.5-point underdog.

In the all-time playoff series between the teams, San Antonio has won three of the four previous series. The Spurs own a 15-7 advantage in head-to-head playoff victories. Let’s break down this Spurs vs. Trail Blazers matchup.

Spurs Try to Regroup, Potentially Without Wemby

San Antonio was upended in Game 2 as the game shifted once Victor Wembanyama exited after a hard fall. He is in the concussion protocol but did travel with the team for the trip to Rip City. In Game 2, San Antonio started slowly but rallied to lead by one after the opening quarter. The Spurs regrouped to lead by 14 with 8:33 remaining in the contest but struggled offensively the rest of the way. San Antonio was outscored 27-10 the rest of the way to wind up with the loss. Meanwhile, the Spurs were led by Stephon Castle, who had 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists in the defeat.

De’Aaron Fox (17 points, six assists) and Stephon Castle (17.5 points, seven rebounds, six assists) provide additional firepower.

San Antonio is 8th in the league in field goal percentage as they shoot 45.9% from the floor on the year. The Spurs are 12th in threes per game as they connect on 11 triples a night. They are 21st in three-point percentage by shooting 34.6% from beyond the arc. Spurs vs. Thunder Prediction

There is a lot in flux when it comes to this contest. It’s unclear if Wembanyama will take the floor here, wait until Sunday’s Game 4 or beyond at this stage. All Mitch Johnson has said is that he hasn’t been ruled out for this one. Portland was strong down the stretch as they rallied to win Game 2 and return home for this contest. The Trail Blazers were 24-17 at home on the year and they have momentum. Meanwhile, Portland’s biggest concern is putting together a full 48 minutes. Until we actually see that happen, you have to fade them a bit, even at home. Take San Antonio here to regroup, with or without Wembanyama.

Our Prediction: Spurs -2.5 (FanDuel, -106)
