It’s the continuation of the NBA Finals as the third-seeded New York Knicks make the trip to clash with the second-seeded San Antonio Spurs in Game 2 Friday night and we have things covered with our Knicks vs. Spurs prediction. In Game 1 of the series, New York rallied to take a 105-95 victory on the road to take a 1-0 series lead.

In the all-time regular season series between the teams, the Spurs own a 60-47 advantage. The Knicks took two of three meetings this season, including a 114-89 home win in the most recent matchup March 1. In playoff history, the teams have met in just one series previously as the Spurs took the 1999 NBA Finals in five games. Therefore, San Antonio owns a 4-2 advantage in postseason wins.

Knicks Try to Maintain Playoff Tear

New York found themselves behind for long stretches of Game 1 only to rally late to take the victory. That gave the Knicks their 12th straight postseason triumph and home court advantage in this series. In Game 1, New York led by as many as seven in the opening quarter, trailed by as many as 10 and by eight after one. The Knicks trailed by seven at the half and by 14 with 6:31 to play in the third quarter before storming back. New York tied the game after three quarters, led by eight with 6:07 to go and trailed by one with 2:16 remaining. The Knicks scored the final 11 points of the game to earn the victory. Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 30 points in the win.

In the postseason, the Knicks are 1st in the league in scoring offense with 118.9 points per contest entering this game. New York is 4th in the league in rebounding as they collect 45.3 rebounds per game. They are 1st in the league in assists by dishing out 26.3 dimes per contest. The Knicks are 1st in the league in scoring defense by allowing 100.2 points per contest. Jalen Brunson (27.1 points, 6.3 assists) is the team’s leading scorer. OG Anunoby (19.5 points, 6.6 rebounds) and Karl-Anthony Towns (17 points, 10.7 rebounds, 5.7 assists) provide a good secondary punch for the Knicks in the playoffs.

New York is 1st in the league in field goal percentage as they shoot 50.7% from the floor as a team. The Knicks are 3rd in the league in threes per game as they knock down 13 triples a night. They are 1st in three-point shooting by hitting 39.3% of their attempts from beyond the arc. New York is solid at the charity stripe, ranking 8th in the league by cashing in 76.2% of their attempts.

Key Injury Report for Knicks:

Spurs Look to Even Series

San Antonio had their foot on the Knicks’s throats but eased off the pressure. That proved to be their undoing as they were dumped late to wind up down a game in the series. In Game 1, San Antonio trailed by seven early before leading by as many as 10 in the opening quarter. The Spurs still led by seven at the half and by 14 midway through the third quarter. Despite that, San Antonio was even after three quarters and trailed by eight midway through the fourth. The Spurs rallied with a 9-0 run to go up 95-94 with 2:16 to play but gave up the game’s final 11 points. That sent them to defeat. Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs with 26 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks. However, he shot just six of 21 from the floor in the contest.

In the postseason, the Spurs are 3rd in the league in scoring offense as they average 114.2 points per game on the year. San Antonio is 1st in rebounding by grabbing 47.6 boards a night. They are 4th in the league in assists by handing out 24.6 dimes per contest. The Spurs are 6th in the league in scoring defense as they give up an average of 105 points per game. Victor Wembanyama is leading the team with 23.3 points plus 10.8 rebounds and 3.5 blocks this postseason. De’Aaron Fox (15.9 points, 5.9 assists) and Stephon Castle (19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 6.5 assists) provide additional firepower offensively.

San Antonio is 5th in the league in field goal percentage as they shoot 46.3% from the floor on the year. The Spurs are 4th in threes per game as they connect on 12.8 triples a night. They are 5th in three-point percentage by shooting 35.8% from beyond the arc. San Antonio is above average at the charity stripe, ranking 3rd in the league by converting 80.1% of their attempts.

Key Injury Report for Spurs:

Knicks vs. Spurs Prediction

Game 1 was a situation where the team that made the last run ended up with the victory. We saw both teams hold multi-possession leads in the contest only to blow them. The Knicks finished the game on an 11-0 run to win the game. However, the question remains whether they can clamp down on Wembanyama again as they did in Game 1. We saw San Antonio fall in Game 3 at home to Oklahoma City in the Western Conference Finals. They promptly rebounded with a pasting of the Thunder in Game 4. Look for San Antonio to find a way to earn a win here, evening the series.

Our Prediction: Spurs -6.5 (-102, BetMGM)
