The first round of the NBA playoffs continue in earnest with an Eastern Conference battle as the third-seeded New York Knicks take on the sixth-seeded Atlanta Hawks Saturday night and we have you covered with our Hawks vs. Knicks prediction. New York opened the series with a 113-102 home win last Saturday. The Knicks covered the line as a six-point favorite. Atlanta squared the series with a 107-106 road win Monday, winning outright as a six-point underdog. The Hawks took a 2-1 series advantage by winning Game 3 109-108 at home Thursday. They won outright as a 1.5-point underdog in that contest.

In the all-time playoff history between the teams, New York has taken two of the three playoff series previously. The Knicks own a 10-7 advantage in head-to-head playoff victories. Let’s break down this Knicks vs. Hawks matchup.

New York Trying to Square Series

New York could be up 3-0 in this series but back-to-back one-point defeats has them down 2-1 in the series after falling Thursday night. The Knicks now look to bounce back on the road and give themselves even footing heading home. In Game 3, New York trailed by as many as 18 in the game but rallied to lead 108-105 with 1:03 remaining. The problem is, they went scoreless the rest of the way and ended up giving up the winning bucket with 12.5 seconds to go. OG Anunoby led the Knicks with 29 points and nine boards in the loss.

In the postseason, the Knicks are 6th in the league in scoring offense with 109 points per contest entering this game. New York is 5th in the league in rebounding as they collect 46 rebounds per game. They are 13th in the league in assists by dishing out 21 dimes per contest. The Knicks are 8th in the league in scoring defense by allowing 106 points per contest. Jalen Brunson (27.7 points, six assists) is the team’s leading scorer. Karl-Anthony Towns (21.3 points, 11 rebounds, 3.3 assists) provides a good secondary punch for the Knicks in the playoffs.

New York is 8th in the league in field goal percentage as they shoot 45% from the floor as a team. The Knicks are tied for 11th in the league in threes per game as they knock down 11 triples a night. They are 7th in three-point shooting by hitting 35.1% of their attempts from beyond the arc. New York is solid at the charity stripe, ranking 3rd in the league by cashing in 77.9% of their attempts.

Key Injury Report for Knicks:

Hawks Look to Push Knicks to the Brink

Atlanta rallied late in Game 2 to stun the Knicks in the Big Apple. On Thursday, after leading most of the way, the Hawks found themselves down three with under a minute to play. Rather than fold, the Hawks scored the final four points, capped by CJ McCollum’s jumper, to give them the victory. Atlanta can put the Knicks in an unenviable position if they prevail here. Jalen Johnson led the Hawks with 24 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists in the win.

The Hawks enter this contest 9th in scoring offense in the playoffs by averaging 106 points per game. Atlanta is 13th in rebounding by collecting 40.3 boards a night. They are 10th by dishing out 22 assists per contest. Atlanta is 11th in the league in scoring defense as they allow opponents to score 109 points per game this season. Jalen Johnson puts up 21.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists a night to lead the team. Nickeil Alexander-Walker (13.3 points) and CJ McCollum (27 points) provide a solid secondary scoring punch this season.

Atlanta is 6th in the league in field goal percentage by hitting 46.1% of their shots from the floor this season. The Hawks are tied for 4th in threes per game as they hit 12 per contest. They are 6th in three-point percentage during the regular season as they hit 36% of their attempts from beyond the arc. Atlanta is below average in free throw shooting as they are 13th in the league by converting 70.6 % of their attempts on the year.

Knicks vs. Hawks Prediction

Atlanta took the last two games thanks to late game execution. The Hawks rallied in the fourth quarter of Game 2 then made the stops in the final minute of Game 3. Winning both games by one point gave them the series advantage but it’s tough to walk that tightrope consistently. Brunson needs to get more consistent support if they want to get back on track. Anunoby put up a big game Thursday and needs to do it again. It’s hard to see the Knicks get rattled here and suffer a third straight loss. Take New York to square the series.

Our Prediction: Knicks -1.5 (FanDuel, -110)
