The Knicks vs. Celtics prediction for Friday, October 23, features two of the Eastern Conference's best teams looking for their first win of the 2026-27 NBA season. The defending NBA Champion New York Knicks travel to TD Garden to face the Boston Celtics after both teams suffered disappointing opening-night losses.

Both teams were among just six selected to play on the NBA's opening day, and this matchup could even be a preview of the Eastern Conference Finals.

Knicks vs. Celtics Odds

Boston enters Friday's matchup as a slight home favorite despite losing its season opener. New York is also 0-1 after falling to the Philadelphia 76ers on its championship ring night at Madison Square Garden.

Here are the latest Knicks vs. Celtics odds:

The narrow spread reflects how closely matched these teams are. Boston has the home-court advantage, but New York brings championship experience and continuity into this matchup.

The total of 223.5 points is also intriguing considering the offensive talent on both rosters. Both teams are capable defensively, but they have enough individual scoring weapons to produce a high-scoring contest.

New York enters the season with legitimate expectations of repeating as NBA champions, and there's good reason to believe the Knicks can accomplish that.

Unlike several other Eastern Conference contenders, New York didn't undergo a significant roster overhaul during the offseason. The Knicks are bringing back essentially the same group that won the championship, giving them an advantage in chemistry and familiarity.

Brunson remains the centerpiece of the offense, while Karl-Anthony Towns provides an additional scoring threat who can stretch the floor and create mismatches. The biggest question entering Friday is how New York responds to its opening-night disappointment.

Brunson wasn't particularly impressive against Philadelphia, and I expect him to be much more aggressive against Boston. The Knicks have too much talent and experience to remain winless for long.

Boston is another team with championship aspirations, but the Celtics look significantly different than they did a season ago.

The departure of Brown and arrival of George was among the biggest news of the offseason and Boston has created a new dynamic alongside Tatum. While both are extremely talented offensive players, establishing chemistry and determining their respective responsibilities will take time.

George was phenomenal offensively in Boston's opener, providing an encouraging early indication of what he can bring to the Celtics.

However, Tatum needs to be better for Boston to reach its full potential. One particularly encouraging development was Tatum's playmaking. He looked comfortable creating opportunities for teammates, and that could become an even larger part of his role this season. The Celtics have enough talent to compete with anyone, but their new identity remains a work in progress.

Knicks vs. Celtics Prediction: New York Moneyline (+115)

My favorite Knicks vs. Celtics prediction is New York on the moneyline at +115 at most sportsbooks.

These are two of the best teams in the Eastern Conference, and there's a legitimate possibility they meet again in the postseason with a trip to the NBA Finals on the line. However, I believe the Knicks have an advantage at this particular point in the season.

New York is essentially bringing back the same roster that won the championship, while Boston is still figuring out how to maximize its new-look lineup.

That continuity matters, especially early in the season. The Knicks already understand their offensive responsibilities, defensive rotations and how to play alongside one another. Boston, meanwhile, is integrating George into a significant role while adjusting to life without Brown.

I also expect Brunson to be much better than he was in New York's opener. He's one of the NBA's premier offensive guards, and after a disappointing first performance, I expect him to come out aggressive and look to establish himself immediately.

Boston certainly has the talent to win, particularly if George continues playing at a high level and Tatum improves offensively. But I trust New York's established chemistry and championship experience.

The Knicks are getting points despite being one of the most complete teams in basketball, and I believe they'll win outright. I also like the over at 223.5 points. Both teams have capable defenses, but there are too many dynamic offensive weapons on the floor for me to expect a low-scoring contest.

Best Bet: New York Knicks Moneyline (+115)

Final Prediction: Knicks 118, Celtics 114
