NBA Finals MVP Odds Shift Again After Knicks’ Historic Comeback

Following the biggest comeback in NBA Finals history, the New York Knicks have secured a commanding 3-1 series lead over the San Antonio Spurs entering Game 5.

Had the Spurs completed the win, they would have been heading home with all of the momentum after back-to-back victories. Instead, the Knicks now sit one win away from an NBA championship, and Anunoby was the biggest reason why.

However, Anunoby’s Game 4 performance has created a legitimate debate.

While Brunson has been New York’s most important offensive player throughout the Finals, Anunoby now owns perhaps the most memorable sequence of the series. The combination of the game-saving block and game-winning shot gave him signature moments on both ends of the floor, exactly the type of plays voters remember when casting Finals MVP ballots.

Victor Wembanyama remains firmly in the mix at +390.

Behind Wembanyama, the next Spurs players listed are Stephon Castle at +22500 and Dylan Harper at +50000. Those numbers effectively indicate there is no realistic alternative candidate for San Antonio.

If the Spurs win, it’ll be because of Wembanyama. The same can’t be said for the Knicks.

While Karl-Anthony Towns had a strong start to the series and played a major role in New York building its early lead, his odds have fallen all the way to +4500 and he’s largely fallen out of the conversation. With the Knicks now one win away from a championship, the race may ultimately come down to which of those two players delivers the defining performance in the game that ends the series.

As dominant as Brunson has been and as memorable as Anunoby’s Game 4 heroics were, one more big moment could still decide both the championship and the Finals MVP trophy.
