Luka Doncic Drops 52 Points in Lakers Comeback Win Over Jazz

There are plenty of great scorers around the NBA, but when it comes to the relentless ability to put the ball in the bucket, Luka Doncic is one of the best scorers of this generation. He's led the Los Angeles Lakers to a great start this season and has already put together the highest-scoring performance of the young NBA campaign.
Doncic dropped 52 points in a big comeback victory over the Utah Jazz on Sunday, marking the first 50-point performance of the entire season. After falling behind by 18 points in the first quarter, Los Angeles stormed back to win 132-123 and improve to 3-0.
Luka Doncic Explodes for 52 Points Against Jazz
Not only did Doncic score 52 points, but he was incredibly efficient. He shot 17-of-30 from the field and 8-of-18 from the three-point line while also dishing out 10 assists and pulling down eight boards.
It's the 10th time in his regular-season career that Doncic has scored 50 or more points, and it came in a game where it was needed. The Lakers likely don't win this game without his scoring outburst because Utah came out firing, scoring 47 points in the first quarter and building an 18-point lead.
But Doncic exploded offensively, Los Angeles responded with 45 points in the second quarter, and the Lakers ultimately controlled the game down the stretch.
Doncic Already Building MVP Case
It's only the first week of the season, but Doncic is already starting to build a real resume for MVP. Winning matters in this league when it comes to earning MVP honors, and he's helped the Lakers get off to this hot start while continuing to put up the gaudy numbers he normally does.
And with the Lakers having legitimate championship aspirations, having Doncic play at this level makes those expectations feel even more realistic. Of course, there's a long way to go, and every team still has nearly 80 games left. Doncic will need to continue this production, stay healthy and keep the Lakers winning.
But as of now, his MVP resume is already very strong.
