The NBA trade deadline has come and gone, and this year was an interesting one, given a significant chunk of the major moves happened the day before the deadline. It was really a 72-hour stretch of action that was spread across three days. And while there certainly were moves that were made ahead of Thursday’s 3 p.m. ET trade deadline, there were arguably the most significant deals done on Wednesday, the day before.

And with all these moves, there’s always going to be a downstream impact on not only the future of all the franchises that made moves, but also the way the rest of this season plays out. Some teams improved their championship odds, while others that were more focused on building for the future saw their title equity take a hit.

From a betting perspective, it’s important to understand which teams have risen and fallen, where there could be an edge, and how the trade deadline could impact the final months of the regular season and the playoffs. Here are the biggest risers and fallers in championship odds before and after the NBA trade deadline.

Biggest Championship Odds Risers

Cleveland Cavaliers (+3000 to +1300)

Cleveland made the biggest leap on the board after acquiring James Harden to enhance the offense, a move that immediately pushed the Cavs into firm title-contender status.

Minnesota Timberwolves (+2500 to +1600)

Minnesota added Ayo Dosunmu without sacrificing key rotation pieces, leading oddsmakers to upgrade the Wolves’ championship outlook.

New York Knicks (+1600 to +1300)

This was a more modest move, but added guard depth with Jose Alvarado helped nudge New York’s odds slightly in the right direction.

Charlotte Hornets (+100000 to +15000)

Still longshots, but the Hornets made one of the largest numerical jumps after an active deadline that included adding Coby White.

Detroit Pistons (+1600 to +1400)

Detroit saw a smaller improvement after adding Kevin Huerter, with hopes that he can provide much-needed shooting and spacing.

Biggest Championship Odds Fallers

Orlando Magic (+5000 to +6600)

Orlando slipped after a quiet deadline and an underwhelming first half of the season.

Los Angeles Lakers (+3500 to +5000)

The Lakers added Luke Kennard, but the move wasn’t enough to convince oddsmakers that they meaningfully closed the gap on top contenders.

San Antonio Spurs (+1100 to +1600)

San Antonio remains a contender, but standing pat while others improved resulted in a slight dip.

LA Clippers (+8000 to +25000)

Trading away James Harden and Ivica Zubac signaled a step back in the short term, leading to one of the steepest drops on the board.

Atlanta Hawks (+20000 to +50000)

Despite adding multiple rotation pieces, the market reacted negatively, making Atlanta one of the biggest fallers after the deadline.

As always, not every trade deadline move shows its full impact immediately in the betting markets. But as rotations settle and roles solidify, these odds shifts provide an early roadmap for where value may emerge as the NBA season pushes toward the playoffs.
