NBA MVP odds

Saturdays can be relatively quiet in the NBA, and such is the case today with only six games on tap. The slate appears to be evenly divided between likely blowouts and highly competitive games, with a couple of matchups between big-name teams particularly intriguing.

Saturday March 5 NBA odds

Here are Saturday March 5 NBA odds with point spreads, moneylines and totals.

What to watch for today

Mavs look to keep rolling as Kings visit: The Mavericks may not be widely perceived as on the same level as the top Western Conference trio of the Suns, Warriors and Grizzlies, but they’ve arguably been playing better than all of them of late. Dallas has won nine of its last 11 games, and while Luka Doncic has unsurprisingly taken center stage with MVP-caliber play, the likes of Dorian Finney-Smith and Spencer Dinwiddie have stepped up their contributions as well. Jason Kidd’s club looks to continue its ascent Saturday afternoon when they welcome in a Kings team they’ve beaten in two out of three games and that’s just 9-23 on the road.

Spurs try again for milestone Pop victory: The Spurs have tried and failed three straight times to get legendary head coach Gregg Popovich a win that would tie him with Don Nelson for most career victories in NBA history. San Antonio has come tantalizingly close on two of those occasions, too, dropping four- and three-point decisions to the Heat and Kings, respectively. Dejounte Murray and company seemingly have another reasonably good chance at getting the job done Saturday night when they visit the Hornets, which are only 15-15 at home and are 3-9 since Jan. 30.

76ers and Heat set for conference showdown: The 76ers may not have reached the top of the Eastern Conference yet, but if points were being awarded for having the right “vibe,” Philly would already be considered the team to beat. James Harden’s arrival and subsequent stellar play has taken Doc Rivers’ squad to a new level, with the Sixers winning each of The Beard’s first four games with the club. Saturday night figures to bring a stiff test, however, as Philadelphia is coming off a hard-fought 125-119 comeback win over the Cavaliers on Friday night and faces a Heat team that’s 21-7 straight up at home and that’s had the last two days off.

T-Wolves aim to keep rolling against short-handed Trail Blazers: The Timberwolves are picking up some momentum in their own right over in the Western Conference, as Minnesota is looking more and more like a legitimate postseason contender with every passing game. The T-Wolves tuned up for Saturday night’s visit from the Trail Blazers by crushing another inferior opponent in the Thunder on Friday night. Chris Finch’s club is still a heavy favorite against Portland despite playing on the back end of the back-to-back, as the Blazers will be taking the floor without Josh Hart (rest) and Jusuf Nurkic (foot).

Warriors and Lakers tangle while mired in extended slumps: A Warriors-Lakers matchup that looked like a made-for-primetime clash of the titans a couple of months ago now shapes up as somewhat of a lackluster battle between two struggling teams. Golden State and Los Angeles are both underperforming at the moment, and the spotlight is shining much brighter on the Lakers due to their 27-35 record. L.A. has lost four straight and seven of the last eight overall, but the Dubs haven’t been any better with seven losses in their last nine. The two star-laden but struggling squads face off at Arena, with the Warriors having won the first two games of the season series, albeit by narrow seven- and two-point margins.
