States Where You Can’t Bet On It

New York, like a handful of other legal betting states, considers a qualified sporting event that’s eligible for a betting market as “an event at which two or more persons participate in sports or athletic events and receive compensation in excess of actual expenses for their participation in such event.” Unfortunately, NBA draft odds fail to meet those requirements.

With that being said, New York sports betting recently set a record for the most tax revenue generated since it launched in late January. Hence, it certainly isn’t yearning for more wagers.

Here are the other five states that haven’t approved NBA draft odds for sports betting. The list also includes North Carolina and Washington if you expand the parameters to states with retail sports betting but not mobile.

  • Connecticut
  • Iowa
  • Pennsylvania
  • Virginia
  • Washington D.C.

Moreover, residents in these states are restricted from wagering on awards markets too. So those bettors are unable to access the 2023 NBA MVP odds. As it stands, Luka Doncic () and Joel Embiid () are at the top of the board. Nikola Jokic (), whose claimed the MVP in consecutive seasons, sits right behind them.

Where Can You Bet On The NBA Draft?

Unsurprisingly, the list revolves around every other state with legal sports betting. But not every sportsbook posts betting markets at the ready. For instance, BetMGM only has the No. 1 overall pick available, as of Wednesday morning.

  • Arizona
  • Arkansas
  • Colorado
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Louisiana
  • Nevada
  • New Hampshire
  • New Jersey
  • Michigan
  • Oregon
  • Rhode Island
  • Tennessee
  • West Virginia
  • Wyoming
