NBA DFS Picks & Value Plays for Saturday Dec. 13

Anytime you're building a Daily Fantasy Sports lineup with only a two-game slate to work with, it's very challenging. No matter which DFS app you use, the player pool is tiny, which means the chalk condenses fast, a couple of lineup decisions end up deciding everything, and one rotation surprise can swing the entire night.

With the NBA Cup taking place tonight, Thunder-Spurs and Knicks-Magic both serve as fascinating matchups, especially when leveraging the latest DFS promos. The minutes should be tight, the stars should have the ball in their hands late and the margin for error is basically nonexistent, so carefully crafting the right lineup is important.

That’s why I’m playing this slate with a balanced build. I still want enough top-end firepower to keep up if one of the studs is the highest scorer on the board, but I don’t want to go so stars-and-scrubs that I’m relying on multiple punts to hit at the same time. On a two-gamer, you can survive one modest score, but you can’t survive a couple of complete zeros. The goal here is a lineup with real usage at the top and enough peripheral production throughout to hold up if the games get physical or ugly.

PG: Jalen Brunson (Knicks): $8,600

Brunson shows up in big games, and he’s one of the safest bets on the slate to control the ball and generate points plus assists. Even if the shot isn’t perfect, he can still get there with volume, free throws and late-game usage.

SG: Cason Wallace (Thunder): $4,200

Wallace is a classic two-game slate value because he can pay off his tag without needing a scoring night. He will get plenty of minutes, so the steals, assists and spot-up looks give him multiple paths to value.

SF: Jalen Williams (Thunder): $8,000

Williams is the type of player who wins small slates because his role can expand in any direction depending on game flow. He can score, facilitate and rack up stocks, which gives him a real ceiling without being completely scoring dependent.

PF: Paolo Banchero (Magic): $8,100

Banchero is Orlando’s offensive engine, and the usage is usually locked in no matter what the matchup looks like. He’s also one of the better floor-plus-ceiling plays here because rebounds and assists can carry him if the efficiency dips.

C: Isaiah Hartenstein (Thunder): $6,500

Hartenstein is a strong per-minute producer, and center is a position where you can stack points fast with boards, blocks and easy finishes. At this salary, you’re buying rebound equity and interior stats on a slate where every possession matters, plus he's an underrated facilitator who can rack up assists.

G: Anthony Black (Magic): $5,400

Black is a glue-guy DFS play because he can fill the box score without needing 20 real points. On a short slate, I like anyone who can give you assists, rebounds and defensive stats while staying involved.

F: OG Anunoby (Knicks): $5,900

OG is valuable because his scoring doesn’t have to be huge for him to matter. The steals and blocks upside gives him slate-swing potential, especially when ownership condenses around the same stars.

UTIL: Kenrich Williams (Thunder): $3,000

This is the last piece that makes the build work, and with Williams, you’re mostly asking for minutes and hustle stats. If he gets extended run, he can get to value quickly with rebounds, a couple assists and a few buckets.

The way this lineup wins is pretty straightforward: Brunson and Banchero give you the steady top-end production, Jalen Williams provides a true ceiling in the late game, and the mid-tier glue pieces keep you afloat with rebounds, assists and stocks. On a slate this small, that balance matters, because you’re going to see a ton of similar builds and the separation usually comes from one or two spots hitting their ceiling while the landmines don’t blow up.

The most important thing from here is keeping an eye on the latest news. Confirm starting lineups, watch for any unexpected minute limits, and be ready to use a late swap, especially with the Thunder vs Spurs game tipping later.
