NASCAR returns to Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the Pennzoil 400. Last year, eventual-champion Kyle Larson got his first victory of the season at Las Vegas. This track carries serious implications, as it’s the first on the 2022 circuit that will also be run as a playoff race later on. Below, we’ll look at NASCAR Pennzoil 400 odds and preview the betting field.

NASCAR Pennzoil 400 odds: Preview of the race at Las Vegas

A week ago, Kyle Larson notched his first win of the 2022 season at Fontana. He fended off a ferocious late push by Daniel Suarez and Austin Dillion on the final lap to secure the victory. It was a day dominated by Chevy and– predictably– not by Toyota.

That said, this week at Las Vegas Motor Speedway features a playoff track for the first time this season. Joe Gibbs Racing prioritizes playoff tracks, a strategy that has won the team two championships since 2014. However, the Toyotas faced overheating issues last week at Fontana, attributed to the new design rolled out this season.

Taking a longer shot like Martin Truex Jr. (+1700) or Denny Hamlin (+1300) could prove to be fruitful given JGR’s season strategy. Truex has two career wins at Las Vegas (2019, 2017) and Hamlin won last year’s playoff race at the track. Do be wary of the potential for overheating, though. Depending on your betting strategy, the risk may be worth the reward. However, betting a JGR outright is certainly a boom-or-bust situation this weekend.

Alternatives to JGR this weekend include Joey Logano (+800) who’s won two of the last six races here (2019, 2020). He’s the only current driver with multiple Las Vegas wins. Favorite Kyle Larson (+450) won back-t0-back races twice outside of the playoffs and had a run of three in a row during the playoffs last season. Chevy doesn’t have a long storied track record at Las Vegas, winning just three of times in 10 races since 2016.

FanDuel’s Jim Sannes on Joe Gibbs Racing this week:

[Joe Gibbs Racing’s] the toughest team for me to get a read on… they also had a bunch of issues with overheating last week, which could be a product of the Toyota design on the new car. If they have those issues again, they’re probably going to struggle quite a bit.

It was more about the amount of trash on the track due to wind speeds [as opposed to weather and temperature], which should be less of a concern [this week]. But walking such a thin line there is tough.
