Bucs Injury Analysis

Where does one start with injuries to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?

The damage is on IR at wide receiver. Chris Godwin and Mike Evans are both out. That leaves Sterling Shepard, Jalen McMillan, and Trey Palmer to man the wideout position. It isn’t an inspiring group, especially with Cade Otton atop the target share. Shepard himself missed the week’s first practice as well.

Bucky Irving also missed practice. However, the tailback has been playing through injury and was likely just resting.

The Bucs have major issues in their cornerback room as well. CBs Jamel Dean (starter) and Bryce Hall (rotation) are on IR. Slot rookie Tykee Smith entered concussion protocol two weeks ago. He missed Week 8 and logged a limited practice this week, so he may be on track to play. Considering the state of the remaining corners, Tampa Bay will need him.

LB Lavonte David also sustained an ankle injury and missed the week’s first practice. He’s no longer a star, but he’s still solid and a leader on that defense.

Chiefs Injury Analysis

The main area of concern for the Chiefs is also the secondary. CB Jaylen Watson is already on IR, and replacement Nazeeh Johnson is also hurt now and missed the week’s first practice. Joshua Williams or undrafted rookie Chris Roland-Wallace will try to pick up the slack as best they can, and they probably aren’t big drop-offs from Johnson.

The only other notable Chief missing was JuJu Smith-Schuster. He’s trying to return from a multi-week absence, but his presence probably doesn’t move the needle as much now that Nuk Hopkins is in the fold.
